January is a special time for high school graduates from all over Poland. According to tradition, this is when the so-called proms take place, i.e. events organized to celebrate the 100 days left for students to take the high school leaving exam. The event is intended to separate fun time from intensive learning.

The prom usually opens with a polonaise danced by the students and often by the teachers. More and more often, recordings of dance performances are posted online, and schools are competing with each other in coming up with the most original dance routines and costumes. In this unofficial race, the hearts of viewers were especially won by high school graduates from the 1st Secondary School. Tadeusz Kościuszko in Busko-Zdrój.
On January 13, at the Palace in Konary, the polonaise was danced in fancy costumes. “‘Ladies and Hussars’ opened the ball full of charm, dancing the traditional Polonaise under the direction of Dagmara Rawska-Kwolik. Period costumes and a beautiful arrangement invariably delighted those gathered in the hall,” we read in the description of the recording.
“They look like they’re from Pan Tadeusz”
As it turns out, the video’s commenters also appreciated the dance. “I’m watching it and I can’t hold back my tears. There’s everything here: tradition, finesse, charm, charming period costumes,” writes a retired teacher under the video, clearly moved by the recording.
“Beautiful, graceful and graceful. The girls in ‘Josephine’ dresses look like they’re from Pan Tadeusz and the boys in uniforms look like they’re from a magazine. Great respect for your beautiful performance, you’re great,” is another compliment. There were even comparisons to real noblemen’s balls. “Thank you for respecting our old Polish tradition” – reads a fragment of another comment filled with emotions.
