DJ Vika, or Wirginia Szmyt, is the oldest female DJ in Poland. He has been active in the music industry for years and is not slowing down at all. Bah! A few weeks ago, a film about her incredibly colorful person was released in cinemas. How did you become interested in working behind a console? She recently talked about it in:
When I stopped working, I couldn’t come to terms with the grayness of retired life. With full awareness, I decided to change the image of a retiree and the perception of old age. I wanted to show that grandma or grandpa can have their own life, they don’t have to take care of their grandchildren if they don’t want to, feed the ducks or go to church.
Initially, she started organizing meetings for seniors, then also trips, and until now – apart from other activities – she also runs multi-generational discos in Warsaw. Because music was always present in her life. Knowing that it had a positive impact on our condition, both mental and physical, she often used this type of stimuli when working with young people, and later also with seniors.
DJ Vika connects generations with music
DJ Vika is actively involved in the lives of other seniors, making them aware that music affects not only the body, but also the soul. It also loudly draws society’s attention to the presence of older people. Therefore, following the example of the Equality Parade, it organized the Seniors’ Parade. He wants to break the stereotype of old age and reduce the gap between generations. As she said in the interview:
I promote respect for transience. If I show that at this age you can work and be active, then young people will not be afraid of old age when they look at me.
