A discount store customer chose a specimen that weighed just over a kilogram and paid PLN 5.47 for it. As soon as she unpacked the vegetable from the foil, she noticed something disturbing on its leaves. – I thought everything was fine. The cabbage was packed in food foil. I weighed it and put it in my cart. Only when I got home did I notice what was hidden in the leaves, she said. They were small, dark dots.
The dark dots turned out to be insects, probably flies
– the store customer clarified. She started tearing off the cabbage leaves, which led her to another, not very pleasant discovery. The woman said, that there are large, dark spots on the leaves, “as if there was something disgusting under them.” – Curiosity won and I broke off a few more leaves before the cabbage ended up in the basket – “Fakt” quotes her as saying.
Unfortunately, returning the vegetable to the supermarket was not possible because the store was located over 50 kilometers away from the woman’s place of residence. So it would be completely unprofitable.
She bought cabbage with a “surprise” in a well-known supermarket. The network responds and apologizes
The editorial team turned to the Kaufland chain in this matter, because it was there that the “whistleblower” made the wrong purchase. People were asked, among others: where could the discoloration on the cabbage come from? “They may be the result of changing climatic conditions for growing plants. However, we accept only the highest quality goods from our suppliers, and the case in question is incidental,” the store wrote in its statement.
The chain stated that the freshness of the products put up for sale is its “priority”. The company also apologized for the situation and explained that the vegetables and fruits they offer come from “sustainable crops” and each one undergoes detailed inspections before hitting store shelves, “including random cutting of vegetables and assessment of their appearance inside.”
