At 18, we imagine what our future will look like. We often plan the next stages of our career and personal life in detail, and then adult life verifies our plans. Some teenagers even write letters to adult versions of themselves. Reading them after many years can be a great experience. That’s what Fetin did and immortalized the moment on a recording lasting several minutes. There were almost 500 comments under the video.
A letter to your adult self. She opened it after 14 years
Fetin admitted that although her younger self planned to open the letter when she turned 25, even that didn’t work out. – I’m 32 now and I couldn’t read it before. I was afraid that who I had become would disappoint me, she confessed. In front of Internet users, she took action.
She opened the envelope and took out a birthday card bought for her eighteenth birthday. She addressed it to her 25th birthday. On the first page there is an inscription: “Happy birthday.” “I’m really stressed out, but it’s already expired for 7 years, so let’s do it,” she began.
Her expression fell from the first words. – Oh, interesting. The text is divided into two parts. One is addressed to 19-year-old me, she said. She then read: “You’re 19. Wow, you’re old. I wanted to wish you a happy birthday on your last teenage birthday. Good luck in 2010.”
“I should have wished myself good luck in 2020 when the pandemic happened,” she said. She also showed a drawing that was supposed to represent her image.
“This part kind of pisses me off.”
Then she read the next part of the letter. Addressed to myself in 6 years. “I hope everything is going well for you until then. Here’s a list of things you should accomplish by then,” she began. Then she added: “Okay Fetin, relax.” And she interrupted the recording, assuring that she would record a second part with a continuation of the letter. As she said, so she did.
The 18-year-old claimed that she would work at the BBC by the time she was 25. Fetin admitted that she could technically consider it a completed plan because she worked on two shows. Second on the list was moving out of the family home. “I actually live alone and it’s great,” she commented.
Creating a good relationship came in third place. – Dear 18-year-old Fetin, you haven’t been in a relationship since you were 20. I’m sorry you’ll be disappointed, because it was important to you then, but it’s not important to me anymore, she emphasized. In 4th place was “directing something at least once”. She also counted this as passing since she is an internet content creator. Number 5: maintaining contact with people with whom she has long lost contact.
She considered point 6 the saddest. “Just be happy,” wrote the 18-year-old. – I don’t want to cry, but it touches me very much. My first priority has always been to be happy. And it’s sad because… I don’t feel happy
