The Association of Cinematographic Informants of Spain (AICE) has shown this Friday its solidarity with victims of sexual violence, and has pointed to job insecurity as one of the causes that lead to it, because, as they have pointed out, “it is a taboo, because it humiliates and embarrasses those who suffer from it.”
“Precariousness is weakness”stated the president of the AICE, María Guerra, during the XI Feroz Awards gala, which is held at the Vistalegre Palace in Madrid, to which she added that, for this reason, “part of the solution involves put an end to job insecurity”.
In this sense, Guerra recalled that a year ago, at the Feroz party there was an attack and the victims reported it. “We are always with the victimswe encourage you to report,” said the president of the AICE, who also congratulated the newspaper ‘El País’ for having published information on sexual violence in cinema, with three women who have reported suffering abuse by the director Carlos Vermut.
“We think it’s the perfect time to publish it because this way we can reflect together on the brutal change that has occurred in the world since in 2017 the New York Times reported the first case of #metoo” until 2024 with the hashtag #seababó, which floods social networks, he has expressed.
In this regard, he highlighted that cinema and sport are two giant focuses of media attention, but they are not the only places where there are abuses. “Bullying is everywhere and especially he always preys on the weak,” he noted.
Furthermore, in his speech, Guerra asked the second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, present at the gala, that in her objective of regulating and reducing the working day, that don’t forget the presssince, as he has stressed, “this silent precariousness is expelling a new generation of journalists who do not want to work for so little pay.”
Thus, the representative of film journalists has advocated for the independence of the press and for having a “critical voice and job stability to bring to light successes and bad practices.” Finally, he ended up remembering that culture “cannot be censored.”
