Perupetro and the General Office of Social Management (OGGS) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) managed to close the first Prior Consultation Record for Lot 8, located in Loreto.
The agreement was reached with 21 representatives of the communities of the Achuar and Urarinas indigenous peoples of the Chambira and Corrientes basins, after achieving multiple consensuses that will allow “to guarantee the respect and effective exercise of their collective rights and the sustainable development of investments in hydrocarbons”.
“The active participation and willingness to dialogue of the parties to the Prior Consultation process of Lot 8 allowed important agreements to be reached and the Consultation Minutes to be signed between the representatives of the State and the representatives of 21 communities of the Achuar and Urarinas indigenous peoples” , highlighted Perupetro.
The signing of the Consultation Minutes took place in the city of Iquitos with the participation of accredited representatives of the native communities San Juan Campesino, Santa Elena, Nuevo Triunfo, Cuchara, Nueva Unión del Corrientes, San José de Porvenir, Nueva Alianza del Corrientes , Las Palmeras, Nuevo Porvenir, Nuevo Progreso del Corrientes, Nuevo Paraíso, Nueva Unión del Chambira, Santa Rosa de Patoyacu, Bellavista, Santa Elena de Patoyacu, San Pedro de Patoyacu, Nueva Vista, Nuevo Perú, Santa Carmela, Santa Marta and Pijuayal of Patoyacu.
It also had the approval of the representatives of the FECONACERC, FEPIAURC, FIURCO, FEPIURCHA, and FEIURCHA Federations. On the state side, Perupetro, Minem and the Ministry of Culture signed.
Lot 8: 86 agreements for the development of the oil industry
As a result of the dialogue, 86 consultation agreements were reached that address issues related to the constitution of a Social Fund in favor of the native communities of Lot 8, formation of a Participatory Committee, points related to the Administrative Measure, among other topics.
The signing of this first Minute represents an important step in the intercultural dialogue with the indigenous peoples located in the area of influence of Lot 8 and it is expected to continue advancing with the other 23 communities, in order to complete this consultation process, an essential requirement for the approval of the new Lot 8 License Agreement.
“Perupetro ratifies its commitment to promote the sustainable use of the country’s hydrocarbon resources, in conditions of respect for the collective rights of indigenous peoples,” concludes the agency’s statement.
