Jan Piechociński made his screen debut with a double role in the historical drama “The Nest” by Jan Rybkowski, while still a student at the Łódź Film School. Later, he appeared in many different productions, both on the small and big screen, but his greatest popularity came only after over a decade.
After this film, Piechociński stopped getting roles. For some time he lived on benefits
In 1985, the actor played the title character of “Oh, Karol” directed by Roman Załuski, which gained not only the recognition of critics, but also the hearts of viewers, especially women. However, the role that was supposed to be his ticket to a great career turned out to be a curse. The filmmakers claimed that he was too associated with the figure of an unfaithful husband and a fool, which is why instead of leading roles he was given mainly cameo roles, including: in the comedy “CK Dezertrzy” or the psychological “A Short Film About Love”.
At one point he was doing so badly that he decided to apply for benefits. As he admitted years later, it was an extremely embarrassing and embarrassing situation for him. – The clerks burst out laughing when they saw me – in an interview with “Patry”. In the meantime, he took various odd jobs until he finally decided to emigrate to Sweden, where he found employment as a manual worker. He returned to his profession thanks to the cult series in which in 1997 he was cast as Feliks Nowak. Then his financial situation improved significantly, but, as it turned out, not for long.
Jan Piechociński complains about retirement. That’s why he still has to play in the “Klan”
A few years ago, Piechociński became a distinguished candidate. How surprised he was when it turned out that the benefit he received from ZUS was not even enough to meet his basic needs. So he decided to ask ZASP for help. – Fortunately, I found help from the Association of Polish Stage Artists, so I finally received PLN 1,500 a month – he said in an interview for “Angora”.
However, this did not fully solve his problems and he still has to work to live with dignity. He is grateful to the creators of “Klan” for still caring about the development of his character’s plot, but, as he claims, the remuneration he receives is not high at all, because his role is rather peripheral. – As the Americans say: too little to live, too much to die. It’s good that there is “Klan” – he commented.
