Three women have recently reported having suffered sexual violence at the hands of film director Carlos Vermut. This has been revealed an investigation published this Friday by ‘El País’. The newspaper has spoken with three people, a film student, a cultural sector worker and an employee of his productions, who have recounted very difficult experiences with the acclaimed filmmaker, whom they accuse of forcing violent sexual relations, and in many cases without the use of condoms, without your consent. The filmmaker has denied the accusations in the same report published by the newspaper.

The victims, who did not want to be identified for fear of their personal and professional situation and about whom ‘El País’ says that “they look physically alike: two of them younger than him, they were 21 and 26 years old at the time, all of small stature”, have stated that “they felt unable to get rid of him or defend themselves phearing the fear that something worse could happen to them“Thus, the newspaper includes a series of events that occurred between May 2014 and February 2022 that Vermut does not recognize or reinterpret in its favor.

That is, he assured “not having been aware of having committed sexual violence against any woman“, and added: “Another thing is that the person at home later felt bad and perhaps at the time was afraid to say it. I can’t know that.” Vermut has even stated the following: “Imagine that I have gone up to my house with a person and we are in bed or on the couch talking. I assume it has a sexual intention. Maybe I’ll get close to her, I can touch her breasts, and if that person tells me to get away from her, I won’t do anything else. It depends on the context.”

None of the women reported what happened to the police for fear of losing their job or not being able to get one.

Considering the chronology of events, The first case takes place in May 2014. According to the victim’s story, after meeting Vermut in a well-known pub in the Malasaña neighborhood (Madrid) and becoming intimate, they ended up at her house: “He jumped on top of me, started strangling me. I didn’t see it coming. I started to kick him.” Finally, she agreed: “The only thing I remember clearly is that I asked him: ‘Please put on a condom.’ “Which he didn’t do.”. The film director responded to this statement by saying that he has no “consciousness” of having forced someone to maintain relationships despite his rejection.

The second case dates back to May 2016. Here, the victim, a film student and aspiring director, describes how the filmmaker lunged at her to kiss her and touch her breasts without her consent and how he ripped off her bra: “He put his hand between my tits and bra, and pulled. I stood so still, I didn’t know what to do, he noticed and said, ‘Is something wrong with you?’ It was instinctive, I stayed still.” After this situation, the woman “left the director’s house crying.” Vermut has responded to this accusation by arguing that she has “never” torn off a garment from anyone to have sexual relations.

The third testimony refers over a long period of time, between end of 2019 and February 2022. In this case, the victim, who participated in the team that worked for him and to whom the director had promised – according to the young woman’s version – a better job, asserts that “in each of their encounters they always had sexual relations with violent practices.” “, as ‘El País’ indicates, which gives rise to an episode in which she becomes “locked in her house one day after receiving ‘degrading treatment’ for monthsboth verbal and physical’, and a level of violence that was not consented to in the sexual relations they had.”

Although none of the women who have narrated these events reported what happened to the police for fear of losing their job or not being able to get one, to give maximum veracity and depth to this investigation ‘El País’ has detailed that It has “documentary material” that supports it: “Emails, photos, WhatsApp conversations with him and with people around him, and interviews with 31 industry workers. And the testimonies of six people around him.” Vermut, 43, released his debut film, ‘Diamond Flash’ in 2011 and in 2014 he rose to fame with ‘Magical Girl’. His latest work, ‘Manticore’, is about a pedophile man tormented by his desires.
