On January 23, we learned the nominations for the 2024 Oscars. There were no major surprises. The most nominations went to “Oppenheimer” by Christopher Nolan and the latest work of Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos – “Poor Creatures”, which can be seen in Polish cinemas from January 19.
“Barbie” received 8 Oscar nominations. Ryan Gosling is outraged anyway
Although “Barbie” did great at the global box office and beat the film biography of the creator of the atomic bomb, the roles were reversed at the Oscars. Greta Gerwig’s film was nominated for a prestigious award in eight categories. However, fans and creators of the production were outraged that the Academy omitted the most important works from the point of view of content, which try to explain the assumptions of feminism to viewers. There were nominations for director and best actress in a leading role.
The absence of Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie also disappointed Ryan Gosling. “There is no Ken without Barbie and there is no ‘Barbie’ movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie,” he said in a statement to CBS. The actor emphasized that he was honored to be nominated for a supporting male role in “Barbie”, but it was difficult for him to fully enjoy it when his female colleagues were ignored.
“To say I’m disappointed is to say nothing”
Gosling called Gerwig and Robbie “the two people who are most responsible for the historic success of the film, which was appreciated by the whole world. “To say that I am disappointed that they were not nominated is like saying nothing,” confesses the upset actor.
The star noted that the creators managed to make the audience laugh, break their hearts and create a story that became embedded in culture. The actor also noted that he was very happy with the nomination for the film’s Gloria (America Ferrera), who has a chance for a statuette for a supporting role.
