A pensioner received a water bill. When he opened the letter, he was stunned. “It chilled me”

Retired Mr. Kazimierz from Olsztyn received a water bill that is four times the amount of his pension. The helpless man told his story to Gazeta Olsztyńska. – Now I can’t sleep at night because I don’t know why my water bill is so high – he emphasized.

The beginning of the year is the time to wrap up last year’s affairs. It is during this time that residents of apartment blocks can expect to be billed for water, electricity and gas consumption. A pensioner from Olsztyn who received a water bill turned to the media with his story. Mr. Kazimierz feels helpless in the face of the amount that is four times his pension. In an interview with Gazeta Olsztyńska, he admitted that when he opened the envelope, he couldn’t believe his eyes. “It chilled me,” he said.

Water bill higher than pension

The man is afraid that if he falls behind in payments, his housing allowance will be withdrawn. – I may also lose my apartment later. It’s like dominoes. I wouldn’t want that. I’m very nervous, he said. At the same time, to settle the payment, he would have to spend his four pensions on it, a total of PLN 4,307. He saw this amount on the bill presented by the Municipal Premises and Buildings Department. And yet you still have to buy medicines and live on something.

– So far, I paid PLN 220 every month for an apartment with water, after including the housing allowance. Where does this amount come from now? It’s 20 times higher than my monthly payments! – a worried senior told Gazeta Olsztyńska.

The plant throws up its hands

A specialist came to the senior citizen’s apartment to check whether the meters were working properly. He did not find any failure. At the same time, Mr. Kazimierz notices that his water meters are old, but he cannot afford to replace them.

Gazeta Olsztyńska asked the Department of Municipal Premises and Buildings for a comment. “The settlement in question was made on the basis of the regulations for settling the supply of utilities to residential premises in buildings owned by the Olsztyn commune. Based on the invoices received from PWiK in Olsztyn, it was determined that the amount of water used in the building at ul. Poprzeczna 14A for the first half of 2023 was 1,993 mі , while the amount of water used resulting from the sum of readings of water meters installed in individual premises amounted to 824.293 mі. This means that the difference between the reading of the main water meter and the sum of readings of local water meters amounted to 1147.707 mі. I would like to point out that some premises in the building in question are not metered (with own choice of their users) or equipped with water meters that have lost their legal features over time and have not been consciously replaced by users yet,” we read in the response. The only solution offered to the senior is to divide the costs into installments. As long as he submits an appropriate application.
