Disney Branded Television is a unit of the concern that is responsible for the production of youth series for the Disney+ streaming service and the Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior television stations. A few days ago, the company commissioned the creation of a pilot for a series that is to be a continuation of one of the most popular sitcoms in the history of the station. We are talking about “Wizards of Waverly Place”, which was produced in 2007-2012.
A surprise for fans of the former Disney Channel. “Wizards of Waverly Place” is back!
The main roles in the reboot are Selena Gomez and David Henrie. The actors were even named executive producers of the first episode of the series, which currently has the working title “Wizards.” The script is written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who previously worked on the spin-off of the sitcom “Raven’s World”, which was another popular Disney Channel production from the 00s.
The information was also confirmed by David Henrie on his Instagram profile, where he posted a photo of the title page of the script. “The Russos are thrilled to be part of your family again, but as adults. 2024 is the year the magic returns,” he wrote in a post on Instagram.
At the moment, it is not known what exactly the series will be about. Let us recall that in the final episode of “Wizards of Waverly Place”, Alex (Selena Gomez) won the fight among the siblings to be a wizard. However, Justin (David Henrie) did not lose his abilities, but emigrated to the prestigious WizTech school for wizards, where he became the director of the facility.
Media from overseas report that if, apart from the pilot episode, production of the entire series begins, it will focus on the character of Justin. Selena Gomez’s involvement as Alex was only confirmed in the first episode, but it’s possible she’ll appear as a cameo character if the sitcom continues. It is not known whether the youngest sibling, Max, played by Jake T. Austin, will appear in “Wizards”.
