He King Charles III will undergo surgery for a benign condition prostate and his public engagements will be briefly postponed, Buckingham Palace.

According to the letter, the intervention is scheduled for next week, in which the monarch will receive treatment for an enlarged prostate. This is a “corrective procedure”, even though the condition is apparently benign.

“Like thousands of men every year, the king sought treatment for an enlarged prostate,” the statement said. Benign prostate enlargement is common in men over the age of 50 and is usually not a serious condition, according to the NHS website. It also does not imply the risk of developing prostate cancer.

The announcement came this morning (Ecuador time) shortly after it was revealed that another British royal had just undergone abdominal surgery. This is the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, who will be in hospital for the time being and at least another two weeks.
