The long-awaited premiere of the new adaptation took place on January 5, 2024, breaking all possible records. Since then, Maciej Kawulski’s film has attracted over a million viewers to cinemas, which is a record result in the history of the Polish box office since the pandemic.

The success of the new “Mr. Kleks’ Academy” was determined not only by the engaging plot and fast-paced action, but also by the original characters, played by the best actors of the domestic film industry. The following deserve special recognition, among others: , who created the queen of the Wilkus family, as well as Sebastian Stankiewicz, who played the extremely characteristic Mateusz Bird. In an interview for the program, they both admitted that working on the set was both a challenge for them and a fulfillment of their childhood dreams. – I remember when it turned out that I was going to act in the film, my mother said: “Son, this is one of your favorite films when you were a child,” said the actor, referring to the original made almost 40 years earlier.

He admitted that the process of creating his character was extremely tedious and included many stages, including: a 4-hour long make-up, carried out by Wanda Tatuch-Kędzierzawska and Karolina Kordas. – I played the character of Mateusz the Bird, which was reinvented by Maciek Kawulski and the scriptwriters, so I could create something completely new – he said. To be able to prepare for the shooting, which started at 7 a.m., he had to get up at 2 a.m. to visually prepare for his role. – I could play half man, half bird. It was completely creative, something completely new and it was great – he concluded.

Danuta Stenka played the villain. She had to learn a new language for the role

Nevertheless, Danuta Stenka was fascinated by her role. Although she has a rich artistic achievement, she did not have many chances to act, and Kawulski’s film became an opportunity for her to present a previously unknown side of herself to the audience. – For most of my professional life, I played mostly noble characters. And there is some acting meat in the villains. This was an area I was not allowed to enter for the simple reason that I didn’t receive any offers, said the film queen of Wilkus. At the same time, she revealed that her character is one-dimensional and will not appear in the sequel, so viewers will not be able to find out whether she has undergone an internal transformation. – She won’t have a chance to reflect, so she will remain in the sauce of evil – she said.

The actress’s task was made more difficult because she had to learn a new language, i.e. the Wilkus language. – It was really a challenge, because I have no reference point in this language – she admitted, adding that the preparation process, although tedious, was a fascinating experience for her. – It’s amazing that it was probably created in the same way that a language with all its grammar is created. In order to learn this, I dissected each sentence, each issue into its first elements. I had to know every word to be able to put the right accent, she recalled.
