“They are on everyone’s lips. They are listened to, read and watched. They attract attention, captivate and inspire. They play key roles in the world of culture and entertainment,” announces the well-known chain nominated for Empik’s Bestsellers 2023. The winners of all categories will be announced on February 13 during the Empik Bestsellers 2023 gala, broadcast on TVN and streamed on Empik’s YouTube and Facebook. The creators whose works were most often purchased through the store chain have a chance to win the prize.

This year’s nominations show that readers are loyal to their favorite authors. Valérie Perrin returns to the list of nominees with the book “The Wonder Years”, and Toshikazu Kawaguchi with the second volume of her hit “Before the Coffee Gets Cold”. The winner of the Empik Bestseller 2020 – Katarzyna Nosowska in “Don’t confuse with love” talks about feelings, reveals personal stories, getting to the heart of love. Elżbieta Cherezińska in “Sydonia. Word się się” reaches into the deepest recesses of history and reconstructs the story of a noblewoman convicted of alleged witchcraft. The nomination of Jakub Żulczyk, who last year released a sequel to the hit “Blinded by the Lights” in the form of “Long ago in Warsaw”, is also not surprising.

In this edition of Empik’s Bestsellers, the distinction for non-fiction returns. Fighting for the statuette are “Chłopki” – a reportage that sheds new light on the lives of rural women, “I’m Glad My Mom Died”, an autobiographical story about a difficult relationship with her mother, “The Other One” by Prince Harry, an interview with the president Aleksander Kwaśniewski and “The Best Place in the World” – a book for those who want to understand the geopolitical situation of Poland against the background of international changes.

In the Crime and Thriller category, Poles were loyal to the creators of the genre who have been at the top for years. The winner of the previous edition, Remigiusz Mróz, has a chance to win the statuette again, and his rivals are international literary celebrities: Harlan Coben, BA Paris and Camilla Läckberg.

After years of domination by mainly Polish artists, this time foreign performers came to the fore. In the Rock category, the success of new albums by such legends as Depeche Mode, Metallica or The Rolling Stones. Next to them, they are fighting for the title of Empik Bestseller 2023 Måneskin and the iconic Męskie Granie. In turn, in the Pop category, the situation is the opposite – here, Polish music prevails. They compete for the title of the most popular Daria Zawiałowreturning after many years Cortes, folk-pop siblings – Apple Blossom and awarded three years in a row sanah. The only foreign accent in this group is the album Lana Del Rey. The competition in the Rap and hip-hop categories looks interesting. 2023 was full of high-profile premieres on the domestic scene, new albums entered the top of the most frequently chosen albums Taco Hemingway, Avi, ReTo, the PRO8L3M duo and Polska Wersja. But Poles listen to more than just music.

Empik customers selected the nominees for Empik’s 2023 film Bestsellers by purchasing films on physical media in showrooms and online and watching them in Multikino throughout the year. The most popular Polish productions on the small and big screen include: an unusual depiction of World War II (“Philip”)moving and widely commented “Green Border” directed by Agnieszka Holland or visually stunning “Peasants”. Family cinema, as in previous years, was dominated by animations. “Wonka” with an all-star cast, it is the only acting film among the nominees.
