The Opole branch has learned that the District Prosecutor’s Office in Opole has already initiated an investigation into the misappropriation of entrusted movable property of significant value. However, teachers from the First and Secondary State Music School in Opole in an interview with the portal indicated that the matter came to light when the son of the school’s director graduated from this school.
The bassoon scandal at the Opole music school. Not one, but two instruments disappeared
– The instrument was simply supposed to go to the next student. The second bassoon was hanging on the wall and needed correction. These are pre-war instruments, but still of great value, say teachers from the Opole music school. However, after the holidays, it turned out that only the case remained of the instrument borrowed by the director’s son, and the second bassoon that needed correction was also missing.
Initially, the teachers thought that the disappearance of the instruments was due to the departure of one of the employees who had been keeping an eye on them until then. It quickly turned out that the reason was completely different.
Fellow bassoon players noticed on an international website for musicians that a Heckel super-instrument was for sale. And in the photo, the director’s son with a renovated bassoon. You can see the first two digits of the instrument number, the rest are asterisked, for the amount of nearly PLN 38.5 thousand. euro! – told the portal opolska360.pl.
The announcement stated that the instrument had been renovated in one of the German workshops. Teachers contacted the company and explained that the bassoon had disappeared from the school in Opole. The company’s employees gave them the exact number of the instrument and suggested they contact the police.
Then information came to light that, according to the documentation, both valuable bassoons were to be sent for disposal. The instruments were supposedly only suitable for waste. Interestingly, the value of one of them was estimated at PLN 1.25. Interestingly, the decision to scrap it was supposed to be made in 2020, when the instrument was already under repair in Germany.
The director of the facility is on long leave and the prosecutor’s office is starting an investigation
The teaching staff of the State Music School in Opole demanded an explanation from the director, but she refused to answer the question due to her sick leave since the fall. She also did not respond to inquiries from the portal opolska360.pl or “Gazeta Wyborcza”. However, in the meantime, the case was referred to the prosecutor’s office, which initiated an investigation into the misappropriation of the instruments.
Moreover, the teachers decided to notify the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage about the liquidation of musical instruments – fagates. They also filed a motion to dismiss Magdalena Czerwcowy from the position of director of the facility. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage referred the case to the Center for Artistic Education, which exercises pedagogical supervision over the school on behalf of the ministry.
In this case, the CEA found “shortcomings and irregularities, including improper management of school property.” However, the notification to the prosecutor’s office concerns the crime of misappropriation of instruments worth over PLN 350,000.
