“The Witcher” without Henry Cavill, but with Morpheus from “The Matrix”. Laurence Fishburne joins the cast

Netflix announced that Laurence Fishburne will star in the fourth season of “The Witcher”. He will play a character who has been introduced as “an experienced barber with a mysterious past.” It is difficult to say whether Morpheus from the classic “Matrix” will be enough to distract viewers from the fact that Liam Hemsworth will suddenly play the main role instead of Henry Cavill.

Laurence Fishburne in the cast of the fourth season of “” is a nice surprise for viewers of the Netflix production. So far, the biggest star of the series with Hollywood blockbusters was the one who gave up playing the witcher Geralt. Earlier, and yes, there was speculation, among others: that Mark Hamill was supposed to play the main character’s mentor in the production, but these plans came to nothing and the role of Vesemir was taken over by Kim Bodnia. Meanwhile, to wipe away some tears, Fishburne, who has also participated in such blockbuster series as “Mission: Impossible”, “John Wick” and “Hannibal”, will star in a series based on the prose of Andrzej Sapkowski, a certain Regis.

Morpheus from “The Matrix” will star in “The Witcher”

Regis appears for the first time in the Witcher saga in the volume “Baptism of Fire” and is an extremely surprising character. Those who haven’t read the books yet will have to be satisfied with the information that he is an “expert barber with a mysterious past.” The actor said: – I’m very excited to join the cast and can’t wait to get to know more about the wonderful world of ‘The Witcher’. He announced his participation on January 12.

In the fourth season of “The Witcher”, apart from him and Liam Hemsworth, the cast will feature Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Princess Ciri and Joey Batey as Jaskier, known from previous series. Filming is scheduled to start in spring 2024 and, according to the website, the work is expected to last until October.

There was also an announcement of what awaits the heroes in the next chapter of the story based on the world created by Andrzej Sapkowski: “After shocking events that changed reality, Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri must traverse the war-torn Continent and face numerous demons. Again “They are separated, but they find new companions. Like it or not, they now lead groups of friendly ‘outcasts’ with whom they have a chance to survive the baptism by fire and find themselves again in this crazy combination of events and adversities.”

Netflix was also supposed to offer Gary Oldman the role of Regis, but this plan clearly didn’t work out. Oldman starts working on the set of the fifth season of his series “Slow Horses” in February, which definitely explains why he would refuse to participate in “The Witcher” – we read on the Redanian Intelligence website.

Laurence Fishburne is well known to most viewers as Morpheus from “The Matrix”, but it is worth remembering that the actor starred in Francis Ford Coppola’s cult film “Apocalypse Now” at the age of 15. To get the role of a soldier, he concealed his real age, but the director liked him so much that he cast him in subsequent productions such as “Rumble Fish” (1983), “Cotton Club” (1984) and “Kamienne ogrody” (Gardens of Stone, 1987). We will also see him in the spectacular “Megalopolis”.
