The title character will be played by Marisa Abela, known from the HBO series “The Industry”. The film will focus on the beginnings of Amy Winehouse’s career, showing her teenage years in London and the path to world fame. Her contacts with her close colleagues will also constitute a large part of the plot.
Her voice sent shivers down many people’s bodies. Now we will get to know her story in a biographical film
The film is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, who previously directed, among others, “50 shades of Gray”. In the press release we can read that the film will also feature Winehouse’s greatest hits, sung by the actress playing her character.
Discovering a talent as great as Marisa Abela is extremely rare. The moment she looked straight into the camera at her first audition, I knew she was the perfect actress to play Amy Winehouse. She put an incredible amount of work into it, paying attention to every detail, practicing for hours every day to be able to sing throughout the entire film. She doesn’t play Amy, she embodies her, says the director.
“I don’t write music to be famous. I write songs because I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t,” says Abela as Winehouse in the trailer. Despite her turbulent and loud career, the artist was just like that. She managed to release two studio albums that delighted the whole world, but it was the second album released in 2007 titled “Back To Black” made almost everyone interested in her.
However, in later years, more and more people talked about her addictions. Winehouse died on July 23, 2011 at the age of 27. 4.16 per mille of alcohol was detected in her blood. There was shock caused by alcohol poisoning after a period of abstinence. Her former assistant Alex Haines reported that the artist was afraid that she would die in the future at the age of 27.
