On January 9, 2024, in the evening, the police detained the legally convicted Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik, who stayed in the Presidential Palace throughout that day. The former ministers were taken from there to the police station at Grenadierów Street, and then to the Warszawa-Grochów detention center. Everything happened during Andrzej Duda’s absence.

The president was then in Belvedere Palace, where he met the leader of the Belarusian opposition, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. – When the president was informed about what was happening in the Palace, he wanted to return immediately. However, the exit from Belweder was blocked by a public bus – said the head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Grażyna Ignaczak-Bandych.

He started talking about Tuesday’s events by saying: “The president versus the bus. Kamiński and Wąsik were stopped by the police. Duda was stopped by a bus. This is the first such case in political history.”
He further developed the topic of the head of state being detained by a bus. “It happened that presidents in various countries were stopped by the people, by history, by the armed army. Poland is a medium-sized country, but thanks to Duda it will enter the almanacs of world politics. The Polish president stopped by a bus sounds better than flying a scooter to Mars.”
The musician further told that when Duda learned about the detention of the MPs, he immediately interrupted the meeting with Tsikhanouskaya and went back to the Presidential Palace. However, the exit from Belweder was blocked by city bus number 180, which was standing at emergency lights near the intersection of Belwederska and Bagatela.
After this incident, PiS supporters will certainly boycott public transport in Warsaw, just like IKEA furniture and several other large companies that withdrew advertising from TV Republika as a result of hate speech and anti-Semitic jokes appearing there.
