Days off from work 2024 and working hours this year. When is the best time to take a vacation?

Days off from work 2024 and working hours in the coming year are information that interests all employees. How much will we work in 2024? How long is the working time in each month and can we find a holiday on a Saturday in the calendar in the coming year for which the employer “gives” a day off?

Days off from work are listed in the Act of 18 January 1951 on days off. The list includes dates covering the most important state and church dates. The applicable law guarantees that these are days off on which employees are released from the obligation to work.

An additional day off for a holiday on Saturday. What about Sunday?

In 2024, one of the holidays fell on Saturday (January 6 – Epiphany). In such a situation, the employer is obliged to grant the employee another day off in a given settlement period (applies to employees working from Monday to Friday). However, no other day off is granted for a holiday falling on a Sunday (e.g. May 19 – Whitsunday)..

How many working days are there in a year: how to calculate working hours in 2024?

Working time allows you to determine how many working days there are in a year and in individual months. Working time is calculated according to the following scheme:

  • multiply the number of weeks in a given billing period by 40;
  • to the obtained result we add the product of eight hours and the number of days remaining until the end of a given billing period, falling from Monday to Friday;
  • if in a given settlement period there is a holiday falling on a day other than Sunday, the working time is reduced by eight hours.

Following the above diagram, we can calculate how many working days and how many non-working days there are in 2024 in each month of the coming year, taking into account the one-month settlement period.

Days off 2024: how many hours will we work in each month?

The above table shows that the number of non-working days in 2024 is 115. There will be 251 working days.

Days off from work in 2024: how to extend your rest?

Days off from work in 2024 provide a chance for a longer rest if, on the days preceding or following them, we submit an application for leave and it is accepted by the employer. When is the best time to take a vacation in 2024? Below are examples:

  • May. In the case of leave on May 2, we gain five days off (May 1-5). If we submit a leave application two days before the May weekend, our rest will be significantly longer (April 27-May 5).
  • November. In November 2024, we can enjoy our longest vacation. November 1 falls on a Friday and November 11 falls on a Monday. If you take leave for November 4-8, you will gain 11 days off in a row.
  • December. The situation is similar to May. If you take December 23, 24 and 27 off, you will have nine days off in a row. Leave on December 30 and 31 gives you an additional three days off in a row, i.e. a total of 12 days (from December 21 to January 1, 2025).
