The Voice Senior. A moving confession from a 68-year-old participant
In programs such as “The Voice Senior”, viewers have the opportunity to follow not only the musical development of the participants, but also often learn about the private, moving stories of the singers. This was also the case with Benedykt Kleszcz.
The 68-year-old admitted that he likes being called “Benek”. “I like it when people address me this way. Benedict reminds me of a saint. But I have never been a saint and never will be,” a participant in the program began his story.
He presented his skills by performing the song “Awake” by the Closed Branch. None of the jurors turned their chairs, which means that the 68-year-old will not appear in the next stages of the competition. However, both the jurors and the audience will remember his story for a long time.
“I was dying, I didn’t eat anything for a month”
During a conversation with the coaches, the 68-year-old shared his tragic story. Kleszcz admitted that he chose the song not by accident. The singer has been a non-drinking alcoholic for 17 years.
“During the concerts, I realized that I was losing the lyrics. Halfway through the song, I was playing, but the lyrics – sorry for the word – went haywire. I drank for 35 years. I almost died. I was actually dying because I had strings. Last month, I didn’t do anything I ate. I swear, I heard a voice – Benek, you have to do something about it. I survived three days of dying, curled up in a ball, and then I didn’t have the slightest desire anymore,” said the participant of “The Voice Senior”.
Kleszcz admitted that he took part in the program for his grandchildren. “To show them that grandpa can do something and is worth something.” The 68-year-old also appealed to other people struggling with alcohol problems. He assured that at every stage of the disease it is worth fighting for yourself.
