He Official Contest of Cádiz Carnival Groups (COAC) begins this Tuesday, January 9, with the preliminary phase of the adult category, in which a total of 109 groupsand will last a month until Friday, February 9, the date on which the Grand Final is held at the Gran Teatro Falla.

Every year, the most fun and talented troupes, chirigotas, choirs and quartets come together to compete in the most important competition of the Cádiz carnivals and be crowned the winners of the COAC. He Gran Teatro Falla contest will consist of a total of 109 groups in the adult categorywhich are divided into 54 comparsas, 35 chirigotas, 15 choirs and five quartets.

Preliminaries

The preliminaries of the Gran Teatro Falla contest will run from Tuesday, January 9 to January 25, with each session having six groups from Monday to Thursday and seven during the weekends, except for the last day, which will also have seven groups. All these days will have one or two groups called “heads of series”. On November 25, a draw was held to establish the order of performances and schedules for the preliminary phase. Quarterfinals, semifinals and the final

After the preliminary phase, troupes and chirigotas will compete in seven sessions of quarterfinals that will take place from January 26 to February 1. Then there will be four semi-finals from February 4 to 7 to make way for the grand finale on February 9.

Children’s categories

Regarding the children’s category, three semifinals will be held on January 13, 14 and 20 and the final will be on February 3. For its part, the youth semifinals will be on the days January 27 and 28 and the final on February 2. The date for the romanceros final has also been established, February 8. The quarry functions will start at 12:00 noon. Only the final of the youth category will change this time to start at 4:00 p.m.
