When you make a candle yourself, you are sure what it is made of, and you can adjust each element to suit you. We are talking about decorations, shape and smell. What will you need to soon delight your eyes with a beautiful and long-burning decoration?
What can you make a homemade candle from? You don’t need to go shopping
Making a candle yourself is easier than it may seem. Especially when you try a recipe where you don’t have to wait for it to set and you don’t need any special ingredients. Prepare:
- glass container, e.g. tall and wide or a cup,
- a plastic bottle narrower than the selected glass,
- oil (e.g. olive oil),
- favorite essential oil with natural composition,
- scissors,
- wick,
- selected decorations that you can place at the bottom, i.e. pebbles, flowers, beads, etc.
Pour the decorations into the bottom of the glass up to half the height of the glass and arrange them as you wish. When they are ready, thoroughly pour them (and only them) with water, and gently fill the rest of the vessel with oil mixed with a dozen or so drops of essential oil. Cut out days from the bottle and use scissors to make a small hole in the middle. Thread the wick through it and carefully place the whole thing in the prepared candle. It is important that the length of the wick is in the oil and does not reach the water. A homemade candle will burn for a very long time, and if necessary, just top up the oil.
Which candles are the best and are not harmful? Please pay attention to two things before purchasing
However, if you choose a ready-made one from a store, pay attention to two things before making the final purchase. The first is the base from which they were made. In the case of mass production, it will most often be paraffin, which is very cheap, but harmful to our health. It may cause dizziness, throat or nose irritation, or watery eyes. Slightly less often you can find candles made of the previously mentioned natural soy or beeswax. Although they are more expensive, they are definitely worth choosing. First of all, they burn longer and do no harm. The second thing worth paying attention to is the aroma added to the candles. Choose only those with natural oils, not synthetic substitutes.
