In the United States it deserves attention Carnival in New Orleans called Mardi Gras, which can be translated as “Fat Tuesday”. During this time, the streets turn into one big party in traditional colors: purple, yellow and green. All participants wear colorful beads – a symbol of carnival. There is a relaxed atmosphere on the streets and drinking alcohol is fully permitted. Among the snacks, Mardi Gras cake dominates, where a figurine of Jesus is hidden. The lucky finder is obliged to take the cake to the next party.
From New Orleans we move to Venice, where carnival is celebrated primarily in Saint Mark’s Square. The signal to start the event is the flight of an angel (acrobat). Traditional commedia dell’arte performances are organized on the streets and in theaters. The main motif is, of course, the mask, the symbol of Venice. The carnival ends with a fireworks display and a traditional ball.
The Spanish have their own carnival in Tenerife, this colorful spectacle can be compared to the event in Rio. The celebration begins with the Cabalgata Anunciadora parade. Participants can watch the march of dance groups. At the end, just like in Venice, Tenerife sparkles with the light of colorful fireworks, and the party lasts until dawn.
At the end of the carnival in Germany. How do our neighbors celebrate? The German Karneval begins in November, during this period balls are organized, there is also singing and numerous jokes. Altweiber, the Polish equivalent of Fat Thursday, is called the Old Wives’ Day, at which time women take full power in the town hall. There is a hunt for men’s ties in the workplace.
