The final date depends on the Easter holidays and falls between January 29 and March 4. When will we celebrate Fat Thursday this year? In 2024, we will line up for icing balls on February 8th.

According to tradition, everyone should eat their fill so that later they can observe the rules of strict fasting. Moreover, it is supposed to bring us happiness and success, so on Fat Thursday you should eat at least one piece. However, real record holders go much further, and not only on Fat Thursday. When were Guinness records broken? Below we present the profiles of three winners in three different categories:

  • In 2020 in the category: Most jam donuts eaten in three minutes Leah Shutkever won. The British woman managed to eat the whole thing 10 donuts.
  • In 2018 in the category: Most jam donuts eaten in one minute without licking your lips Jesse Freeman won. The Australian devoured it in 60 seconds 6 pieces.
  • In 2014 in the category: The fastest time to eat a donut without using your hands Philip Joseph Santoro won. The American ate the entire donut without using his hands and without licking his lips 11 seconds and 41 hundredths of a second.

Which is Fat Thursday: a recipe for rose donuts

Modern variations on the filling may surprise you, but the rose donut is considered the tastiest. We already know what time it is this year, maybe it’s worth using the extra time for home rehearsals? Below is a simple recipe for donuts.

List of products for approximately 24 pieces with a rose:

  • wheat flour – 800 g,
  • milk – 1.5 cups,
  • eggs – 4 large pieces,
  • yolks – 2,
  • dry yeast – 14 g,
  • salt – half a small teaspoon,
  • fine baking sugar – 120 g,
  • melted butter – 100 g,
  • orange extract – 3 tablespoons

List of accessories:

  • rose jam,
  • icing (1 cup of powdered sugar plus 3 tablespoons of hot water)

Preparation:

  • Mix the sifted flour with yeast, then add the rest of the ingredients. Remember to add hot fat at the end.
  • Then knead the dough for a few minutes until it becomes smooth and very elastic. Finally, form a ball and place it in a floured bowl, cover and set aside in a warm place for 1.5 hours.
  • Dust the countertop with flour, knead the ball for a while and then divide it into pieces weighing approximately 75 g.
  • Now flatten each one and put a spoonful of jam in the middle, then glue the dough tightly so that the jam does not leak out. Form nice balls and set each one on the board. Cover the dough with a cloth and leave to rise for another 20 minutes.
  • In the next stage, fry the donuts on both sides in deep fat at a temperature of 175ÂșC.
  • Place the fried donuts on a paper towel to drain.
  • Finally, the warm donuts should be iced (powdered sugar mixed with water).
