Viola Urban is a dietitian who willingly shares her knowledge via social media. He has over 42,000 fans on his Instagram. A few weeks ago, she published a video on this platform in which she revealed that she does not put freshly bought bread into the bread box, but into the freezer. There are several reasons. You probably already know some of them, but you probably haven’t considered the dietary suitability of such bread.
Freezing bread – why is it worth doing?
In a short recording, the dietitian explained her reasons. The video was liked by over 3,500 people and it’s no wonder. Some issues are truly surprising. Contrary to appearances, it is not just about rapid staleness or the appearance of mold.
Why do I freeze bread immediately after bringing it from the bakery? Firstly, because such slices are never wasted. I take out exactly as much as I need. I don’t throw anything in the trash, nothing gets moldy, nothing gets dry and everything tastes as if it was freshly brought from the bakery.
Secondly, such bread has a low glycemic index. It keeps us full for longer and nourishes our intestines better. The process of starch retrogradation produces resistant starch, which is indigestible for us, but nourishes good bacteria.
Thirdly, because I freeze bread, I have a more varied diet. I don’t have to eat so much of it to use it up while it’s still good.
How to freeze bread? One mistake and the whole trick loses its meaning
For this trick to work, the bread should be cut into slices. Then you just take out as much as you need from the freezer, without having to defrost the entire loaf. Otherwise, we lose the whole point of this method of storage. To quickly defrost the slices, you can heat them in a dry frying pan, in a toaster or in a microwave.
Freezing bread? “The best patent!”
Storing bread in the freezer caused quite a stir among the dietitian’s fans. Interestingly, for many people it is nothing new. Others, in turn, raised the issue of the taste of such bread. Many commenters also commented on the dietary value of such bread.
It’s shocking to me that someone can not freeze bread. Bread has been frozen in my house for as long as I can remember, due to living in the countryside – it was not possible to go to the store every day to buy fresh bread.
ABOUT! I didn’t know that freezing bread affects its index. Great post
Since I discovered freezing, I go to the bakery on average 3 times a month. The best patent! But I didn’t know the substantive fact about starch
Sometimes I freeze it, but it doesn’t taste the same anymore. I try to buy as much as I know we will eat, and if we don’t eat it occasionally, I fry it in eggs and nothing goes to waste.
