The actor from Malaga Antonio Banderaspresident of the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank, seeks actors, singers and dancers for the next two musical productions that he will direct: ‘Playing our song’, premiering in June 2024, and ‘Gypsy’, which will raise the curtain in the month of October.

Banderas, who is now in New York filming a movie, auditions will open soon to choose the cast members who will bring these two famous works of musical theater to life. “Are needed versatile actresses, actors and singers to cover different profiles of characters and dancers with a very good level of jazz and tap dancing,” says the Soho CaixaBank Theater in a note, which specifies that the auditions are aimed at those performers who have worked in a minimum of two professional musicals of medium or large format.

The auditions will take place in Madrid on February 27 to March 5. Those interested in participating in the ‘casting’ can register until January 14 through the aforementioned website. The musical ‘Playing Our Song’ (Neil Simon, Marvin Hamlisch and Carole Bayer Sager), based on the Hit 1979 Broadway classic ‘They’re Playing Our Song’will premiere next June at the Teatro del Soho Caixabank in Malaga.

Miquel Fernández and María Adamuz will star in the show, whose rehearsals will begin in spring. ‘Playing Our Song’ is a romantic and crazy musical comedy that narrates the relationship between Vernon Gersch, a successful composer and a sentimental failure, and Sonia Walsk, an unknown lyricist, hooked on a toxic relationship with her ex-boyfriend, whom is not able to stop at all. For her part, the actress expert in musical theater Marta Ribera will star in ‘Gypsy’ playing the role of Rose.

This show will be an original staging by Banderas and will feature most of Jerome Robbins’ original choreography. ‘Gypsy’ is considered one of the best American musicals of all time, winner of six Tony Awards and four Laurence Olivier Awards. It premiered on Broadway in 1959 and is based on the memoirs of artist and actress Gypsy Rose Lee.
