“You’re Crazy” is one of the Boys’ biggest hits. The truth about the song came to light years later

“You’re crazy” is one of the most popular songs in the Boys’ repertoire, although more than a quarter of a century has passed since its release. Despite this, few people still know that the group’s leader, Marcin Miller, is not its author. Both the words and the music were created by another singer.

In the 1990s it really flourished. It was all thanks to the Blue Star label, which was founded by the footballer Sławomir Skręta. He is credited with creating the name of this music genre and promoting many still popular bands. One of them is undoubtedly the band Boys.

It is the most popular hit of the 1990s. It was then that the Boys band established itself in the music industry

The history of the group dates back to 1990, when young musicians occasionally played at the “El Dorado” club in the village of Zimna near Ełk. They released their first cassette in 1991 and shortly afterwards made their debut on the recording market with the album “Girl from Dreams”. Their music was popular from the beginning, but they had a real breakthrough in their career only in 1997. It was then that they released the timeless “Szalona” or, if you prefer, “Jesteś szalona”, which promoted the album “OK”. It goes without saying that it was a real hit. The single stayed on the Disco Polo Live charts for as many as 91 weeks, and was number one continuously for 9 weeks. – This song was played at every barbecue, at every party and at every gas station. I heard her everywhere – the leader of the group. Ultimately, after two weeks, the album achieved platinum status, and in less than a year it reached over a million copies. – Our label couldn’t keep up with shipping cassettes and records. It was millions of pieces. I laugh that if there had been YouTube back then, Ed Sheeran or Luis Fonsi would have been able to shine my shoes – said Marcin Miller proudly. Is he really the one who should be given the credit?

Miller is not the author of this hit. “You’re crazy,” wrote another singer

It turns out that the hit hit was not his work. Already 5 years before the release of the song “You are crazy”, it was sung by another band. What’s more, he even included it on his cassette. – I wrote the song in 1991. We released it on the second cassette titled “Jesteś małana” – recalled Janusz Konopla from the Mirage band, accusing the musicians of unlawful use and misappropriation of his work. – Five years later, Marcin Miller, without asking anyone for permission, recorded this song and signed that he wrote the words himself, which is not true – he said, not hiding his bitterness. How did this happen? At that time, there was a lot of lawlessness on the market, and copyright law was still being developed, so ZAiKS was unable to fully control the situation and thus stop this type of practices.

Ultimately, the Boys band admitted that they borrowed the composition from another band, claiming that everything was done in accordance with the law. Apparently, the intermediary was the Green Star record label, which was to pay Konopla a thousand zlotys for consent to remake the song and the rights to perform it. – In 1994, we left the Warsaw record company Blue Star and moved to the newly founded Green Star label in Białystok. There were many bands associated with it, and its owner had the rights to all their songs, and it functioned a bit like publishing. If you liked a song by another artist, you could include it in your repertoire and record it your own way, Miller said in .
