Michał “Misiek” Koterski made his debut on the big screen in the 1999 film “Ajlawju” with the role of Sylwuś, the iconic Adaś Miauczyński. In the last two, his descendant created unforgettable reactions, and the last film can also be treated as his most personal work in his acting career.
Fighting addictions. The stigma of a difficult adolescence
As the younger Koterski himself admitted, his childhood left a huge mark on him. At the age of 6, his father and Iwona Ciesielska divorced, largely due to the director’s alcoholism. “Dad drank, we all suffered. We lived in constant fear. It’s not that he came home and beat my mother. He just came home drunk and that caused fear,” Misiek confessed in the book “This is My Last Life.” by Beata Nowicka. And although the couple was no longer married, they all still lived under one roof, and his mother took on all responsibilities, including those outside the home. There was no shortage of quarrels, and young Michał learned the shadows of life.
A time of difficult decisions. Koterski takes up the “gauntlet”
The period of young Koterski’s adolescence was filled not only with alcohol, but also with other stimulants. When the father moved out of the family home, the mother repeatedly caught her son not only intoxicated, but also under the influence of marijuana. Although the financial situation of the broken family had stabilized, another obstacle appeared on its way. When Misiek discovered heroin, the desperate woman went to a well-known psychologist from Łódź, who advised her to pack his bags and throw him “on the street”.
Iwona Ciesielska did not have the heart to let this happen, but fortunately, Michał finally came to his senses. He realized how much harm he was doing not only to himself, but above all to his loved ones, and went to therapy. Over the years, he has been to rehab centers many times and, most importantly, he is still “clean”. The actor has also not consumed alcohol for 9 years.

Today, Misiek Koterski does not hide his gratitude to his beloved mother. She often shares posts on her social media dedicated to her and their difficult but wonderful relationship. The actor’s life also changed in 2017 after the birth of his son, Fryderyk. It is the fruit of Koterski’s love with Marcelina Leszczak. Although the couple did not avoid separation, today they form a loving and harmonious family. As the artist admitted, his first words to his father, Marek, after the birth of his offspring were: “This will be the first Koterski who will be born into a sober family.”
