The first program broadcast was the new TV daily “19:30”, hosted by Joanna Dunikowska-Paź. One of the materials was an announcement of the new version of TVP Info, but not much was said about it. However, we saw a collection of recordings from the preparations for the broadcast, which allowed us to realize how much work had to be put into this undertaking. Let us remind you that former employees, such as Micha³ Adamczyk, are still at the TAI headquarters.
Kulczycki referred to a poem that was a commentary on the events of April 10, 2010
Around 8 p.m., TVP Info viewers could watch the rest of the program, the formula of which was the same as “Guest News”. The guest of the program was General Waldemar Skrzypczak, with whom the host talked about the incursion of a Russian missile into Poland. After several minutes, the conversation ended and we saw a short commercial break. Afterwards, Jarosław Kulczycki appeared on the screen and, after greeting the viewers, announced what the station would look like now:
I am very pleased to invite you to TVP Info. There has been a TV channel with this name for the last eight years. However, it had little in common with its prototype and the principles of journalistic integrity. It will change. I personally guarantee you that on Polish Television in general, and on TVP Info and TVP news programs in particular, we will give a voice to all sides of the political or social dispute. We will adhere to the principles of reliability and impartiality. We will rebuild Polish public television.
Then the journalist referred to a poem by Jarosław Rymkiewicz, which was sent by the author to the editorial office of “Rzeczpospolita” on April 19, 2010, just after the Smolensk disaster. It’s about a song called “”, and more specifically one of the final lines of the poem: “What divided us will no longer stick together.”
– Unlike what a certain poet wrote, we believe that what is divided can come back together. Poles are together and must be together because the world has become dangerous. Today we wanted to start with a discussion about public media. However, the war changed these plans. This morning, a Russian missile entered Polish, and therefore NATO, airspace – Kulczycki continued.
He further talked about how the president and the government reacted to this situation. He mentioned the meeting at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the National Security Bureau, under the supervision of “19:30” reporter Marcin Antosiewicz, who told viewers in much more detail about the results of these two meetings.
The journalist greeted the viewers and thanked the host for what he had said earlier. After about three minutes of extensive coverage, they returned to the studio, where Kulczycki greeted the first guest of the program – the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovy. The city had been attacked by Russia the previous night, and the city’s mayor told viewers in Polish the consequences of the Russian attack.
In this way, the new TVP Info began broadcasting without any strips. After a dozen or so minutes, I had the impression that despite the shocking topic they were talking about on TV, I still felt calm and didn’t feel attacked by anything. There was no shouting or interruption. My attention was also not focused on the text coming from the strips. If this remains the case, TVP Info may actually resemble BBC News, where experts and specialists are hosted much more often than politicians.
