Iwona Katarzyna Pawlak was born in 1963. She graduated from the Acting Department of the National Film School in Łódź, where she studied with Cezary Pazura, Piotr Polk and Wojciech Malajkat. While studying, she received an invitation to a casting for “Nad Niemnem”, and when the director chose her as one of the main characters, she was scared.
After the success of “Nad Niemnem”, she played in films in New Zealand. “I was more recognizable than in Poland”
Pawlak was afraid that because of working on the set she would not have time to prepare her diploma play and would not finish her studies. Her husband, an actor at the New Theater in Łódź, assured her that it was worth taking part in the production because the film would certainly become a hit. He was right, and the young actress’s popularity grew quickly. While promoting the film in Australia, Pawlak met an agent who got her a role in the New Zealand series “Gloss” and the film “Brotherhood of the Rose”. It seemed that Iwona Katarzyna Pawlak’s career was open to her. — Then I got a taste of the life we lead now in our show business. I was even more recognizable there than in Poland – in one of the interviews.
What does Iwona Katarzyna Pawlak do today? “Nowadays, I don’t play as much as I used to”
When she returned to Poland, she did not spread her wings. And although she starred in, among others, Władysław Pasikowski, she did not have as many orders as might be expected. Iwona Katarzyna Pawlak had several breaks from acting, during which she worked in a bank and also graduated from production studies. — Nowadays, I don’t play as much as I used to, but I don’t feel unfulfilled. (…) I always believed in myself and that I would encounter another interesting career opportunity that would develop me as an actress and artist, she admitted. Currently, in addition to her work as an actress, she is also developing a YouTube channel, where, together with her husband, she shows viewers Powiśle in Warsaw. In 2023, viewers could see Iwona Katarzyna Pawlak in the series “Korona Królów”, where she played the role of Greta, the herbalist.
