Since the takeover of Telewizja Polska by the new government, viewers can no longer watch “Wiadomości” every evening, the materials of which have become a source of memes and mockery of the level of journalism presented there during the PiS era (it is worth remembering, for example, the “American fashion designer” Christian Paul, but also a lot of other mistakes). The new TVP offered viewers a completely different version of the program – “7.30”. As it turns out, even now it is impossible to do without mistakes.
The material broadcast on Tuesday in the “7.30 p.m.” program concerned the recent, although fundamental, change in the Catholic Church. It concerned blessing same-sex couples and people after divorce and entering into new relationships.
A blunder in the TVP program “7.30”. “You can’t do journalism at this level”
The evening daily is run by Marek Czyż. – The Discantery of Doctrine and Faith, one of the most important administrative institutions in the Catholic Church, published the doctrine for the first time in 23 years. The document allows clergy to bless same-sex couples and divorcees who are remarrying. The faithful and clergy are divided in their assessment of these guidelines – one could hear in the program host’s announcement. The mishap did not go unnoticed. The mistake was quickly spotted by a Jesuit, Father Łukasz Sośniak.
‘Dyscanteria’? Has she published ‘The Doctrine’? ‘For the first time in 23 years’? You can’t do journalism with this level of ignorance. “It’s funny, but also pathetic”
– the priest wrote on the X platform, directly addressing Marek Czyż.
Several mistakes were found in the announcement. The first is a corruption of the name – the correct name is “Dicastery” (administrative office of the Catholic Church – ed.), not “Dyscanteria”. The second is to confuse the doctrine with the declaration “Fiducia supplicans” issued by him.
The Pope allowed the blessing of same-sex couples
The third one concerns the period in which the authority issued the declarations. Internet users also pointed out that TVP reported the information as news, although the document in question was published on Monday, December 18.
What happened then? On that day, the Vatican allowed the possibility of blessing couples “in an irregular and same-sex situation.” However, the document stipulated that the blessing should take place outside the ritual – so as not to identify it with the sacrament of marriage.
