A week has passed since the beginning of the revolution in public media, financed from the state budget. The fact that such a revolution would be necessary has been known for a long time – Polish Radio and PAP for several years. Even before the change of power, the ruling PiS tried to cement its positions, explaining the need to maintain the status quo in the media with “pluralism”, according to which the opposition would have a private TVN station, and the government would have TVP, which would be financed by all tax-paying citizens.
On December 20, the new Minister of Culture, Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, dismissed the management boards and presidents of public media companies and appointed new supervisory boards in their place. These elected new presidents. At the same time, the propaganda TVP Info was closed, and on that day, for the first time in the history of broadcasting the program, the evening “Wiadomości” did not appear. – a new host, already employed in the new public media. In the following days, the journalist ran a refreshed, depoliticized program under a new name: “19:30”.
“7:30 p.m.” How is Marek Czyż rated?
Marek Czyż will not avoid comparisons to the previous presenters of “Wiadomości”. For now, he has been hosting “19:30” for a week – only during the weekend he switched places with Joanna Dunikowska-Paź. Under his and Paweł Płuska’s leadership, “19:30” is to be depoliticized and calmed down – the earlier “Wiadomości” became famous for its horror strips and extremely biased materials, in which it was in vain to look for the voice of the middle, not to mention the voice of the opposition.
Media expert Adam Szynol, interviewed by Wirtualne Media, draws attention to features that are rare today:
I do not recall any activity that would exclude him from the group of good, reliable and credible journalists. That’s a lot for today. He is more than just a good journalist in whom you can trust and believe that “7:30” will get better day by day. He is the right man in the right place – he sums up.
“19:30” was created in spartan conditions, and there were many mishaps
Journalists working on “7:30” have had to face additional problems from the very beginning. Former TVP employees employed in “Wiadomości” and TVP Info during the PiS era do not recognize the political decisions to dismiss. PiS politicians also do not intend to calm down the situation – they have been conducting “parliamentary interventions” at the headquarters of TVP, Polish Radio and PAP for over a week.
