Decorating a Christmas tree together for the holidays is a tradition that is still practiced in many homes today. A beautifully decorated tree and twinkling lights create a solemn mood and put a smile on your face. No wonder that sometimes we delay taking it apart and do it really late. Not everyone realizes that, according to tradition, there are three dates when we should hide the tree. When do they fall out?
When to take down the Christmas tree according to tradition? This is the most popular term
The most common date given as the best date to take down a Christmas tree is January 6, i.e. Epiphany, also known as Epiphany. This is a special day for believers because it reminds us of God’s revelation. The second name refers to three strangers who appeared in Bethlehem to welcome the newly born Jesus. On this day, you should go to church and bless incense and chalk. After returning home, the apartment is burned with incense and the year and C+M+B or K+M+B are written on the entrance door with chalk. Translated, it means “May Christ bless (this) house”, or refers to the names of the wise men, i.e. Casper, Melchior and Balthazar.
Do you want to enjoy your decorated tree for longer without breaking tradition? Choose two different days
The second date for undressing is the Baptism of Jesus Christ, which also closes the Christmas season. INHowever, it is worth knowing that this particular holiday is movable, as it falls on the first Sunday after Epiphany. This year it won’t make much of a difference because it will take place the next day, January 7.
If you want to feast your eyes on a beautiful tree longer and still follow tradition, choose the last date that falls on the Presentation of the Lord, i.e. the feast of Our Lady of Candlemas. We celebrate it on February 2. Of course, nothing will happen if you take down the Christmas tree at a different time. The above dates simply refer to a tradition that many people still cultivate.
