The actor revealed on “The Howard Stern Show” that around 2015, his alcoholism worsened so much that he actually doesn’t remember being on the set of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.” John Stamos forgot he was even hired for the production, and the day after his 2015 DUI arrest, he was in Toronto, Canada to shoot the movie.
John Stamos recalls his arrest: I came home and drank a whole bottle of wine by myself
In a conversation with Stern, the actor said that his parents were alcoholics. – It’s hereditary and if you’re exposed to temptation a lot and you think you’re doing well, at some point it attacks you like a monster. In my case, it was the accumulation of divorce, the death of my father, then my mother, and I hit rock bottom, he said.
The actor noticed that many of his friends did not know about the addiction, and when they learned the truth, they were surprised, although some found out. – I was able to stop for a few days. I went to work sober, and after I finished I “rewarded myself,” he recalls. He also admitted that even being arrested by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol did not make him want to stop drinking. – And this is a big problem. I went home, it was terrible – I could have killed someone – and my stomach hurt at the thought of seeing myself in handcuffs. This is not the kind of person my parents raised, I thought. – And what did I do? I came home and drank the entire bottle of wine myself, he adds.
Relatives helped
– Then I was with Rita Wilson and Nia [Vardalos – red.] in Greece and realized I forgot that the next day [po aresztowaniu – red.] I had to go to Toronto to the set of ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2,'” Stamos recalled. – I don’t remember being on that set – he admits.
As soon as he returned from Toronto after “My Big Fat Greek Wedding2”, the actor’s sisters and agents did not organize an intervention, but simply announced that they had packed his bags and he was going to rehab. – Then I said: OK, it’s time – recalls the actor. He went to the center for 30 days and, as he says in an interview, he hasn’t drank since then. Eight years have passed.
