South Korean actor Lee Sun Kyun, known for his role in the multi-Oscar-winning film ‘Parasites’, was found dead this Wednesday in a car, weeks after a police investigation into alleged drug use on his part.
Police initially found Lee in what they believed was an unconscious state in a vehicle in a park in central Seoul around 10:30 a.m. (local time), after receiving a report that he had written a suicide note and that his car was missing.
The actor had gone through several rounds of police interrogations over suspected drug use, although he claimed he was tricked and did not know what he was taking. He tested negative in various laboratory tests, but the investigation received extensive sensational coverage.
This Monday, Lee had submitted a request for a polygraph test to the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency in charge of the investigation, claiming his innocence again.
Lee, 48, was a well-known actor in South Korea before the global success of ‘Parasite’ (2019), Bong Joon Ho’s film that won four Oscars. He rose to stardom in the television series ‘Coffee Prince’ (2007) and gained popularity with ‘Behind The White Tower’ (2007), ‘Pasta’ (2010) and ‘My Mister’ (2018).
