The Christmas period is a time when we spend a lot of time at the table. And this table is usually piled with dishes that are not dietary or easily digestible. Traditionally in Poland, Christmas food is filling, with a lot of meat, potatoes are a must, and salads usually come with mayonnaise. During the holidays, even those who take care of their figure and maintain a healthy diet allow themselves a little more. Effect? Overeating and extra kilos.
“How to lose weight before New Year’s Eve?”
This question is often entered into search engines by women who are hoping for a miracle that they will be able to fit into a dress that is too small. “If there are only a few days left, there is no chance,” replies Joanna Giza-Gołaszewska, a dietitian from the Smakfit Dietary Clinic. Many people feel sluggish after the holidays due to several days of debauchery they indulged in at the table. Instead of looking for multi-day miracle diets, it is worth including products in your menu that will have a beneficial effect on our digestive system.
A dietitian advises what to eat after the holidays
Joanna Giza Gołaszewska, a dietitian from the Smakfit Dietary Clinic, lists three things – or rather drinks – that are worth including in your diet during the upcoming holidays:
Compote of dried fruits – an infusion of dried fruit is a good idea to quench your thirst, and it is also a portion of dietary fiber that will support digestive processes. To make it really “healthy”, dried fruit compote should be made from dried fruit and without added sugar.
Chamomile infusion – may help relieve gastrointestinal symptoms such as mild abdominal pain and flatulence.
Water – it is a drink recommended in every slimming diet. By drinking water instead of sweetened drinks or alcohol, we hydrate the body and do not provide calories. Consuming water before or during a meal reduces the feeling of hunger and increases the feeling of satiety.
The dietitian also reminds us: “Common sense, moderation at the table and exercise can protect us from extra kilos.” Therefore, after a filling meal, instead of lying comfortably on the sofa or armchair, it is worth going for a walk.
