On December 21, 2023, it will go down in the history of Polish Television. The first news program with a changed name in over 30 years was broadcast. “Wiadomości” has been broadcast by the public media since 1989, and from a symbol of regime change it turned into a model of propaganda. The creators of the “19:30” format promise that from now on, there will be no room for political sympathies on Polish Television.
“19:30” instead of “Wiadomości” on TVP. It was his material that started the new news program
Viewers could verify the assurances already on Thursday evening, but it is difficult to judge based on one material created in unfavorable conditions in terms of equipment and time. What was eye-catching and contrasted with the previous editions of the main TVP news channel was definitely an attempt to give voice to various political parties, a gentle choice of vocabulary and zero “sensationalism”. Such a procedure certainly reduces the attractiveness and impact of the quoted content, but it fits into the definition of an information format.
The author of the first reportage shown on TVP after the major changes was Marcin Antosiewicz. The material aimed to explain why there is a need for a revolution in public media under the new government. On the screen we saw protesters in front of the TVP headquarters who had been demanding the depoliticization of “Wiadomości” for years. In the recording, we heard that after many years, Telewizja Polska will return to the citizens and they will have an influence on shaping the station.
The new TVP reporter already has experience working in public television. Marcin Antosiewicz started his career at the Radio dla Nasze radio station belonging to Polskie Radio, he was only 17 years old at the time. In 2004, he joined the television “Panorama”, and in 2007-2008 he served as a correspondent in Great Britain and Ireland.
Marcin Antosiewicz returned to TVP after many years. Who is a journalist?
He started working in the editorial office of “Wiadomości” in October 2008. After half a year, he reported events in Berlin for the program and worked in the Polish section of the German broadcaster “Deutsche Welle”.
In 2016, the journalist left Telewizja Polska and started working with Wirtualna Polska. There he hosted the #dziejesię program and also collaborated with “The Sun”. In 2018, he joined the online editorial office of Forbes and the Newsweek.pl website, and from 2022 he was a journalist of the News24 television and internet channel.
After seven years, Antosiewicz decided to return TVP. Let us recall that the journalist left the ranks of Telewizja Polska because he could not perform the function of a correspondent there in harmony with himself, nor did he see any chance for development.
“I will not build Poland on fear and xenophobia”
The journalist recorded a video in which he explained the reasons for changing his job. “Over 15 years of being a journalist and reporter, I have learned that you cannot reliably perform this profession if you are too strongly influenced by some ideology or you operate in a place where ideology is of paramount importance,” he declared.
“A reporter has the right to his own opinion, but mainly he should keep it to himself. If he is unable to free himself from it, he is not able to report reliably. This is my rule. And no one will influence me to break it” – Antosiewicz emphasized and assured that he tried to report events from Germany without prejudice.
“I am from the generation that is building Poland based on openness, on hope, not on fear and xenophobia. And also as a journalist, I cannot imagine instrumentalizing fears to gain greater popularity,” he declared and warned other journalists against possible manipulations by their bosses.
