The Municipal Museum of Guayaquil comes to life on its 113th anniversary

The entity has prepared a series of activities to celebrate its trajectory this Thursday, December 16.

Just like in the movie A night at the museum, when at dusk the figures of the characters of a natural museum come to life and reinterpret the historical events that characterize them, so will the protagonists of the most important events in the history of the city that collects the Municipal Museum of Guayaquil. They will do so this Thursday, December 16, in celebration of their 113 years of life.

The Director of Culture of the Municipality of Guayaquil, Bright constante, promises for this date to relive the events that marked the development of the main port in its prehispanic, colonial and republican stages with the performances of actors, from 10:00 to 17:30, as a playful tribute for the anniversary of one of the most important institutions in the city.

The host of the day will be nothing more and nothing less than the hero Pedro Carbo Noboa, to whom is owed the foundation of the museum, located in the Sucre streets, between Chile and Pedro Carbo.

The museum also celebrates the 50 years of creation of the mural that surrounds your building. It is the work of the Guayaquil artist Jorge Swett (1926-2012), made in granite, mosaic, iron and bronze. “We are going to project a video that explains the concept of the mural from your child’s experiences. The video will remain as a documentary record of this work, ”explains Constante, for whom this commemoration is very significant, as it occurs just three months after taking office.

The official even announced that in this first year of work the expansion of the museum is planned, through the construction of a new headquarters. “The city grew, the artists also, and there is more and more to tell”, highlighted the director and visual artist, inviting all citizens to appreciate the pieces that the museum treasuresSuch as the sacrificial stone from the Puna, the coffin with which Vicente Rocafuerte was repatriated from Peru, the manteñas chairs and the car that belonged to the doctor Modesto Carbo, which causes the nostalgia of many who still remember him personally.

And, in this way, to be able to resume average visits that it received monthly, around 3,500 people before the pandemic. Adriana Dueñas, Head of the Museum, you also want to remind visitors that they can even rediscover the history of the Pearl of the Pacific on weekends, since the second Saturdays of each month manual activities are activated for children, at 10:00 and 11:00, with the stories of the city.

From the hand of the illustrious Guayaquil native Carbo Noboa, the Industrial Museum was created in 1863 in the old Cabildo house. Later an agreement was signed that officially designated this museum as Municipal Museum on December 16, 1908.
