Adamczeja from “1670” really exists. Residents have no illusions: Come on, sir

Divided into two halves – a larger and a smaller one – Adamczenia from the series “1670” on the Netflix platform is not just an imaginary space in which the name John Paul II fulfills his desires. It’s a real place. How did she come to be the quiet and somewhat muddy heroine of the series?

The village of Adamczeja, the jewel of Poland. A small farm became the main character of a Netflix series that is causing a sensation in Poland. The eight-episode mockumentary in the style of “The Office” won the hearts of viewers. The village of Adamczej, belonging to Jan Paweł and Andrzej (mostly to him), seems to be a place made up by the scriptwriters. Nothing could be further from the truth. You can go to Adamczycha, although – naturally – it doesn’t look like it does on the screen.

“1670”. The village of Adamczeja really exists

Adamczeja is a small village in the Masovian Voivodeship. Nearest city? Ostrołęka. There are probably a maximum of 20 houses with characteristic long strips of fields attached to the back, a pasture for cows, and a stretch of forest. Adamczeja became the heroine of “1670” somewhat by accident and is not particularly impressed by all the fuss.

From what Kuba said, he simply liked the name. He traced the map with his finger and this name caught his eye. There is no hidden meaning or mystery associated with this choice – said Kordian Kądziela, co-director of the series, blaming the choice of Adamczycha on Jakub RuŻYło, a screenwriter, in an interview with the portal historira.org.pl.

What’s worse, Adamczeja only gave the series its name. The photos for “1670” were shot in the open-air museum in Kolbuszowa. Those who are observant will notice the similarity of the buildings to those shown in Smarzowski’s “Wołyń” – the director also chose this place for the set of his film.

And what do the inhabitants of Adamczecha think about all this? They are not impressed that the name of their town is making an international splash. One of the residents, asked by the editors of the portal eostroleka.pl what he thought about Adamczej’s fame, replied briefly:

Come on, sir.

“1670”. What did its inhabitants say about Adamczysze?

Adamczeja, or rather the open-air museum in Kolbuszowa, showed itself to viewers in the autumn entourage. The ground was additionally covered with mud, thanks to which the open-air museum looked as if it were literally swimming in the pre-harvest mud.

It’s normally beautiful here – from June to September. Well, mid-September – praised the owner of the (smaller) half, Jan Paweł Adamczewski.

Good communication, no cattle in the immediate vicinity, an ideal place for a homeless Sarmatian – praised his wife Zofia.

Despite the ubiquitous mud and slightly medieval dirt, the wonderfully maintained buildings in Kolbuszowa did their job. The use of historical buildings anchored the show in the era, and the set design and phenomenal costumes did the rest.
