He dantzari, choreographer, musician and writer Filipe Oihanburu has died in Biarritz at the age of 102. After spending his childhood in Montevideo and Paris, Oihanburu settled in Biarritz in 1939. From 1944, he directed the Oldarra company (first under the name Olaeta), and in 1953 he created the Etorki ballet and choir, “a great 30-year adventure”, as defined by the journalist Eneko Bidegain in the issue of the essential collection “Bidegileak” dedicated to Oihanburu.

Etorki made several international tours (America, London, Soviet Union, German Democratic Republic, Iran, Belgium…), in which they often quenched the thirst of the diaspora through pieces created by Oihanburu.

Once Etorki’s journey ended, Oihanburu worked as a radio announcer, and in 1984 he published a dictionary of Basque surnames. In 1992, he founded an amateur choir under his name.

In 2021, coinciding with his hundredth birthday, he received the Biarritz gold medal.
