TVP blunder. Instead of the film, Kaczyñski appeared and the subtitles remained. “Is the cavalry coming?”

There is a huge stir and activation in Polish Television. On Tuesday evening, the film was interrupted to show the arrival of Jaros³aw Kaczyñski himself at the TVP headquarters. Not everything went according to plan.

Being partisan, it defends itself against the changes that the new government plans to introduce. Late on Tuesday evening, the broadcast of the film broadcast on TVP1 was even interrupted. Instead of “Duel in the Desert”, viewers could see the arrival at the television headquarters. However, the producers made a mistake.

TVP showed Kaczyński’s arrival with subtitles from the film

An image from TVP Info appeared, reporting live the situation in Woronicza and the center of Warsaw. On Tuesday evening, some PiS MPs came to the headquarters of Telewizja Polska to “defend” their position against changes. At Woronicza, it was decided that the situation was so serious that it required a sudden change of the schedule.

The film “Duel in the Desert” was replaced by a report from the TVP headquarters. Unfortunately, the subtitles for the feature film remained. Thanks to this, during the broadcast of Jarosław Kaczyński’s speech, viewers’ screens included not only an information bar, but also words from the audio description. One Twitter user quickly caught the situation:

Did you call for help? Will the cavalry come?

*Breathing heavily* – deaf viewers could read during Kaczyński’s speech.

A quick interview with Mateusz Morawiecki – former Prime Minister – was signed as follows:

He will lie.

He’ll definitely say you’re lying.

Polish Television defends itself against changes

Meanwhile, since the election day, the situation on TVP has been escalating. Unofficially, a significant part of the team responsible for conveying the partisan line of government in recent years has already resigned. Officially, however, there is a defensive uptick. All because of the plans the new government has for public television. From the moment Jacek Kurski was appointed as its head, TVP became the government’s mouthpiece, as evidenced by numerous charts showing the division of screen time between PiS and its competitors. In the months before the elections, some parties (e.g. Confederation) had no access to public debate at all, others had limited time to a minimum.

PiS explains this situation with “pluralism”, pointing out that viewers can switch to other TV stations where they will find a less conservative and right-wing point of view. Other stations, however, are not financed by taxes and, as private ones, can present any worldviews.
