Barbara Nowacka became famous again when Donald Tusk announced that she would head the Ministry of National Education in the new government. Few know that the politician started her career on television, co-hosting the cult program “5-10-15” broadcast on TVP.

At one time, the program was particularly popular, especially among the younger audience. The first episode debuted on Polish Television in December 1982, instantly becoming a hit, and for the next nearly 25 years it gathered millions of viewers. It was here that many famous personalities from the world of show business began their careers, including: Barbara Nowacka.

The new Minister of Education started her career in the TVP hit. She joined the program by accident

It all started when the producers of “5-10-15” decided to introduce a few new faces, in search of which they went to Warsaw schools. They went to the school where the then 12-year-old future politician was studying. However, she did not volunteer and was selected by a Polish teacher. According to the teacher, she was able to speak correct Polish and stood out among her peers. When she was offered cooperation, she was apprehensive, but ultimately decided to try. In this way, she became one of the co-hosts of the TVP show and appeared regularly on the air for the next 8 years, partnering, among others, Marcin Tyszka.

What is Barbara Nowacka’s education? An IT specialist by profession, a politician by vocation

Although the program brought her enormous popularity, she did not plan to become a presenter. She took up IT professionally, which was her great passion. First, she obtained an engineering degree from the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology, and then she obtained her master’s degree at the Faculty of Management of the University of Warsaw. In the meantime, she completed MBA studies at the French Institute of Management. She took up her first serious position in her profession at the university where she began her academic career. But that’s not all.

She was particularly important in Nowacka’s family home, because her mother was a social activist, Izabela Jaruga-Nowacka, who died in the Smolensk catastrophe. In 1993, she joined the Federation for Women and Family Planning, and then became vice-chairman of the youth wing of the Labor Union. After many years of activity, she became the leader of the United Left and co-founded the Inicjatywa Polska association. In 2018, she joined the Civic Coalition, on behalf of which she was elected as a member of parliament for the 9th term in the Gdynia constituency. During the 2023 parliamentary elections, she successfully ran for re-election and was appointed as Minister of Education in the new government.
