I used to associate South Korea mainly with its electronics giants and complicated relations with its neighbor to the north. However, in recent years, Korean care has also joined the list of associations. Since it is also popular in our country, we can find many great products from Korean companies on drugstore shelves. Moreover, numerous books and e-books have been published on this topic.
The best advertisement for Korean care
It is therefore not surprising that so many people start taking care of their skin in accordance with these recommendations. However, many of them quickly give up on it. That’s because this whole routine may seem quite complicated at first. I also had my own approach to it. However, after a few weeks I lost motivation. It all seemed too time-consuming to me.
However, during a press trip to Seoul, looking at the complexions of Korean women and men, I decided that this was the best advertisement for this care. So I came back inspired to start following this routine again.

Drugstores in Seoul are always full of people
In the center of Seoul, it is much easier to find a drugstore than a grocery store. They are probably always full of people. I visited stores of this type at different times of the day. There were plenty of customers there every time. What catches your eye is a huge selection of products not only for women, but also for men. In some cabinets, I get the impression that the lines of cosmetics for men are as extensive as those for women.

Additionally, sheet masks are particularly popular. They are usually sold in ten packs, which makes them very affordable. In one of the stores I come across an attractive promotion. I bought 10 masks from a popular Korean brand for 10,000 won, which is approximately PLN 30 when converted to Polish zloty. Interestingly, in most drugstores in our country, one package of this particular mask usually costs PLN 12-13.
In one of the popular chain stores, I talk to a Korean couple from Seoul. I was convinced they were students. Meanwhile, it turned out that my interlocutors were a 37-year-old and a 35-year-old. As they emphasize, care is very important to them. And the 10 famous steps are simply a habit without which they can no longer imagine their routine. – It’s not tiring at all. Besides, you don’t do all these steps every day, emphasizes the 37-year-old.

I think that my interlocutor’s words should especially reach people who are discouraged by the Korean routine. We don’t have to do all ten steps every morning and evening! There are usually much fewer of them.
I ask my interlocutor about men’s care. I would like to mention that this market is still in its infancy in Poland and that many women are currently at the stage of convincing their partners to take care of their skin. He, however, laughs that in his relationship he is definitely a greater expert in care than his partner.
Korean beauty routine step by step
As I have already mentioned, the appearance of Korean women’s skin is probably the best advertisement for their care routine. Finally, it is worth mentioning what exactly it should look like. Korean care is based on three main pillars: cleansing, moisturizing and sun protection. Importantly, the remaining elements are only additions. It is also worth mentioning that Koreans always start both morning and evening care with thorough cleansing of the skin to increase the absorption of active ingredients and enhance the effect of subsequent cosmetics. Here are 10 steps:
- Make-up removal (only in the evening care);
- facial cleansing with gel or foam (morning and evening);
- peeling (perform this treatment 1-2 times a week, preferably in the evening, in the shortened version we skip this step);
- toning (morning and evening);
- facial essence (in the shortened version we can skip this step);
- serum (morning and evening);
- sheet mask (1-2 times a week, in the shortened version we skip this step);
- eye cream;
- moisturizing cream;
- sun protection (only in the morning).
Some of the treatments mentioned above only need to be performed once a week (this is often the case, for example, with various peelings). We must remember that, contrary to appearances, excessive care is not good for our skin. For example, if we exfoliate the epidermis too often, we can quickly damage our hydrolipid barrier. The skin then becomes itchy, red and irritated.
