Great Britain has its own Lichock. The BBC presenter showed her middle finger in a live program

BBC presenter Maryam Moshiri will certainly not consider this website a success. The cameras caught her showing her middle finger to the camera a fraction of a second before starting work.

One of Wednesday’s newscasts started in an unusual way. After a few seconds of the opening credits disappeared from viewers’ screens, the British saw Maryam Moshiri with her hand stretched out in front of her with her middle finger straight in a gesture widely considered vulgar. The journalist looked as if she didn’t even notice that she was caught in the broadcast and started transmitting information without blinking an eye.

Middle finger to BBC News

Maryam Moshiri has worked at the BBC for over 20 years and was appointed Chief News Presenter at BBC News in February this year. Wednesday’s noon service didn’t start the way it should have. Moshiri later explained that it was the finger she had left after counting down the seconds to enter the video, which was part of a joke between her and a friend from outside the frame. She happened to have the one in the middle left, just as the cameras were rolling. A moment later the journalist was already saying the words “live from London, this is BBC News”.

Even though the finger is visible for fractions of a second, it was enough. The video with Maryam Moshiri has been going viral for 24 hours and is conquering not only Great Britain, but also the whole world. The journalist issued a short statement on Twitter about what happened in the studio:

A moment before the service started, we were joking in the studio. I pretended to count down from 10 to zero, just like the director would, and showed each digit with my fingers. And so I went from ten fingers to one. And while that one was still visible, the cameras turned on, which I wasn’t aware of. It was a joke. These were private jokes with the band and I’m sorry they ended up on air! It wasn’t supposed to happen this way and I’m sorry if I offended anyone. I didn’t show the middle finger to the audience or even to any specific person. It was a joke, wrote Maryam Moshiri on the X platform.

The BBC has not yet commented on its presenter’s mishap.
