Perfumes, both today and in the times of the Polish People’s Republic, were a great way to express individuality and style. Although there was a shortage of luxury goods in the years 1945-1989, including perfumes, they were still very popular among men. The undisputed leader among fragrances in our country at that time were, among others: Cafe perfumes.
Perfumes from the Polish People’s Republic period. A substitute for Opium Yves Saint Laurent, i.e. Oriental Cafe of Cafe Parfums
The oriental Cafe perfume by Cafe Parfums was created by Jean-Jacques Diener in 1978. The perfumer decided to compose a variation on the scent of coffee, which, as it turned out, was a hit. The woody-oriental note fits perfectly into the autumn-winter climate, as it combines spicy and warm patchouli aromas that immediately bring to mind, for example, a meeting with a friend for a cup of coffee.
The main fragrance lines are rosemary, spices, lime, patchouli and vetiver. So, instead of Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium, Polish women could buy a cheaper equivalent of this perfume in Pewex. They are still available in many stores and drugstores at prices ranging from PLN 80 to PLN 100.
