Once kitsch, today gems. Did you have this furniture from the Polish People’s Republic at home? You can buy them again

Furniture from the times of the Polish People’s Republic, especially wall units and sofa beds, are experiencing a second youth and are coming back into favor. They are a tasty treat not only for collectors, but also for enthusiasts of this period. Some of them you can even buy in the store, although in a more modern version.

Items from the times of the Polish People’s Republic, such as porcelain, books and even baubles, have been experiencing a renaissance for some time now. For this reason, they have become a tasty treat for fans of this period and collectors. It’s no different with furniture. Not only wall units are coming back into favor and becoming fashionable interior furnishings. The same applies to half-sofas, which are back in stores, but in a slightly renovated version.

What does a wall unit mean? Iconic piece of furniture from the times of the Polish People’s Republic

When entering the apartment in the 1970s, the first thing that caught the eye was the wainscoting on the walls. In the living room, in turn, a huge wall unit proudly stood in a strong, dark brown color, often with a shiny door at the front. The impressive piece of furniture held everything you needed and was a decoration in itself. Especially when there was beautiful, decorative porcelain or crystals on it, which many people admire to this day. Around the table there were often iconic Chierowski chairs, which are classics of Polish design. There was also a stick table.

What does a half-bed look like? A practical solution for small areas

Another extremely practical one was popular during this period. We are talking about a half-bedroom, which allowed us to save space and, if necessary, gain some space, which was especially important in small apartments and large families. The half-bed was exactly what its name suggests, i.e. it consisted primarily of a couch and shelves placed above it, and it also often served as a bed. After folding, its bottom became the front of the furniture.

Functional furniture from the times of the Polish People’s Republic is coming back into favor. You can buy modern half-sofas in the store

Although it might seem that the time of massive wall units and functional sofas is over, nothing could be further from the truth. Old, classic furniture is becoming more and more popular and is a tempting target for collectors. Moreover, due to the fact that many apartments still lack space, it can be said that half-beds will come back into favor, although of course in a slightly modernized version, equipped with mechanisms that facilitate their use. All this so that, if necessary, you can fold a large piece of furniture and gain some space, for which a half-sofa is perfect.
