A Christmas gift for a child. We recommend cool books for children aged 3-4

The selection of books (not only Christmas ones) for preschoolers aged 3-4 is huge. Here is our subjective selection of the most interesting novelties that will work as a Christmas gift for a child.

Anna Kowal (): It’s time to start the countdown to Christmas! Best with a bookHow much longer until Christmas?” by Adam and Charlotte Guillani (Nasza Księgarnia). The Bear has prepared an unusual game for friends from the forest. Every day a different animal receives a mysterious gift… but not everyone is happy with it. The Rat is grumpy, the Badger is whining… only the little Mouse believes in the Bear’s plan! Check it out was Myszka right and find out what was the biggest Christmas surprise.

Ryszard Kozik (): I’ll start with the bookChristmas in the Big Forest” Ulf Stark with illustrations by Eva Eriksson (Nooks). It’s a forest story in 25 chapters to be read every December evening until Christmas! Grumpy, a house elf living in an abandoned farm, lights the first candle in the Advent candlestick. When he goes outside the house the next day, the wind tears his hat off his head. The rude man kicks the gate in anger, and then a plaque that people had hung up many years ago falls off. The plaque is also carried away by the wind. It is found by animals living in the Great Forest. The crows decipher the inscription on the plaque and say that it will soon be in the forest a guest will arrive…

Everyone knows that Santa Claus enters houses through the chimney, but have you ever wondered how he manages to do it? It’s time to unravel this mystery! Does he squeeze himself with a belt, does he have a shrinking potion, or can he turn into fire? Before you start reading the bookSanta’s Secret” Mac Barnett (Two Sisters), be sure to talk to your children about their ideas for entering the chimney, and then discover Santa’s secret together.

Anna Kowal (): From the book “Santa Claus and the Snowflake that fell from the sky” Michele D’Ignazio (Nasza Księgarnia) we learn, in turn, that Santa Claus started a family! Life with Becia and little Snowflake is wonderful, but also strange…. Especially for someone who was alone for a long time and limited contact with children only to reading the letters they wrote. So how can you establish contact with a girl who is introverted when you are shy yourself? Flying in a sleigh among the stars is a pretty good start, but is it enough to become a real dad?

Richard: “Let’s start the show” by Czesław Janczarski with illustrations by Janina Krzemińska (Two Sisters) is another volume of the “Fairy Tales from the Window” series, containing elements to cut out yourself. It was first published in 1964. We have a show about Cinderella ahead of us. I’m sure your children know this story very well , but with this book they will be able to direct and act it themselves. They will find everything they need to play theater: a rhyming script, scenery and puppets to cut out. It will be great fun, not only on holidays.

Children’s books for the holidays, but not only about Santa Claus and the Christmas tree

Anna: “Memory. World animals” (Czuczu) is a memory game known and loved by everyone in a new version! This time, animals from all over the world encourage you to practice memory and concentration and have fun games. It will work well both as a first game for the youngest and as a family game or for a group of friends. at any age. The elements can be used for a lot of creative games, the level of difficulty of which can be easily adjusted to the age and interests of the participants.

Ryszard: Mikołaj Pasiński and Małgorzata Herba, creators of the award-winning picture books “Balonowa 5” and “Van Dog”, return with a book “There’s no one at home” (HarperKids). Leo and Kimbo are best friends, although they live on opposite sides of the city. One day, each of them leaves home to surprise the other. However, nothing goes according to plan – the characters’ paths get tangled and lead to new, unknown places. The city draws them into a crazy adventure. Will the heroes manage to meet?

Marta Korycka (): Well, I can’t believe I missed the premiere of this duet! My son recited “Balonowa 5” from memory when he was three years old, we also have “Van Dog” and graphics by Gosia Herba in our apartment, so you can probably guess that their new book must be among the gifts in our house!

Anna: Are there any mermaid fans among us? For sure, everyone loves them! Thanks to the book “Facts and rumors about mermaids” by Monika Suska (Nasza Księgarnia), you will learn how to recognize a mermaid, who these sea creatures are friends with and what their food pyramid consists of. You will also discover what instruments they can play and what sports disciplines they are best at. We guarantee that After reading it, you will be experts in mermaid affairs. Our Zuzia was delighted with it.

Richard: “Little Tarmosia. Are badgers having fun?“, “Little Tarmosia. What’s squeaking in the hole?” by Tomasz Samojlik (Agora) is a story about a little badger who lives with her mother Majra, father Melo and grandfather Skjoldur in a forest that hides many secrets. She loves exploring the world and making new friends. After all, in the forest there is an adventure waiting for every tree! Only How can you have fun when your parents are constantly talking about your responsibilities? Or how can you sleep when, apart from your grandfather’s snoring, you can hear disturbing sounds behind the wall?

Marta: We love Tarmosia, also the original aimed at slightly older children – all books with beautiful illustrations by Ania Grzyb. Samojlik has also recently published the 22nd (!) volume of the story about Pompik – “Żubr Pompik. Expeditions. The dance of cranes” (Media Rodzin). The author’s nice cartoon has had many fans for years, and if you don’t know him, take a look at the video, because a series was also created!

Anna: From the book “Tycia Kitty and noisy neighbors” Polly Faber and Melissa Crowton (Zielona Sowa), children (or maybe not only them?) will learn how to resolve neighborly disagreements. The tenants of a high-rise apartment building in the “Parkowy Raj” housing estate love their home! However, today everyone is behaving exceptionally noisily – someone is very stomping, someone is drilling in the wall, the little elephant is still crying, and cookies and cream are flying outside the window! Will Tyci Koci be able to fix this mess and restore neighborly harmony? Or maybe all the noisy animals will be moved to the zoo? We can tell you that this will be possible avoid, and all thanks to the Neighborhood Friendship Cake!

Richard: “The life of a leaf” by Paulina Płatkowska (Zielona Sowa) is a book from the “MicroMiracles” series, which directs children’s attention towards nature – small oddities, wonders of nature, everyday but wonderful phenomena and changes. It satisfies the curiosity of little explorers and answers their non-obvious questions. From this In some parts you will learn, among others, whether the life of a leaf is boring, how the seasons change and what happens to leaves when they fall from the tree. To encourage children to read together, many pages of the book include “Imagination Games” – small and pleasant tasks to complete.

Anna: “We play together! Bing. A book with sounds” (HarperKids) will improve the mood of every child. The cardboard book has an electronic module that allows you to listen to the sounds of five different instruments. The publication can be used as a reading book with a wise message or as a playing toy that stimulates the child’s senses and allows you to learn the basic names, also available in kindergarten, musical instruments. What do bells sound like? What about a tambourine or a drum? Guessing and imitating sounds is a way to entertain and introduce music, which brings joy to young children and allows them to exercise many senses at the same time.

Ryszard: In the book “Bear and Little Bird. The blanket and other stories” (Jarvis, Green Owl) you will find four beautiful stories about friendship. Bear and Bird are the best friends! Together they experience extraordinary adventures – they talk to a flower, paint masterpieces and find the coziest blanket of all time. And although sometimes they do not understand each other, they agree on one thing : they want to make the other person happy. So when Little Bear forgets to pack for a picnic, Little Bird doesn’t let it be known that he knew it from the beginning… In turn, when Little Little Bear discovers that Little Bear has more talent than him, the Teddy Bear finds a touching way to his friend felt better!

Marta: My son and I have been reading this book with pleasure for several weeks. Just like the May premiere: “Basia and the riddles of the universe. Microbes” (HarperKids), although it is worth refreshing knowledge about microbes and proper hand washing with children from time to time throughout the year. It is a short story about a heroine well-known to children, enriched with a handful of knowledge, e.g. about yeast or protozoa.

Anna: A classic of English poetry returns: “Dong with a shiny nose and other poems by Mr. Lear” by Edward Lear (Two Sisters)! Who is Akond of Skwak? Is This Thing from the land of Jolibolibo a fish, an insect, a mammal or a bird? Why did the man from Bombassa wear high heels? You won’t learn this or many other things from this book . Instead, you will find poetic absurdity and childish carefreeness, a lot of tenderness and a bit of melancholy – and many eccentric characters. Go with them to the sea in a sieve, listen to them play the silver flute, dance in the moonlight. Let yourself be carried away by fantasy and feel free like them!

Ryszard: For little artists, we recommend water painting books from HarperKids. The series has already published “Unicorns”, “Dinosaurs”, “Nature” and the latest “My Christmas“. Just dip the brush in water (a wet finger will also work great) and paint the white spaces in the book. Then magic begins to happen! Colors appear! After drying, the colors disappear and the child can start playing again. The coloring books are perfect for travel – there is no risk of getting the child or everything around you dirty – all you need is a little water (the brush is included in the booklet).

Anna: Do you have little scientists at home who would like to conduct an experiment at home? Be sure to check out the series “Adventures in science” from HarperKids publishing house. Books in the series include “Soap”, “Sand”, “Lemon”, “Paper”, “Egg”, “Water”, “Balloon”, “Sugar”, “Salt”, “Potato” and ” Clip”. Each of them describes 10 simple but amazing experiences that will allow you to understand science using objects that each of us has at home. We guarantee that you will have as much fun with the experiments as your children.

Ryszard: And also a touching book, captivating by its simplicity “This is Max” Patryk Pufelski (Two Sisters). Maks is a huge African snail. Until recently he lived in Ukraine with a boy who drove him around in a toy truck. Then they had to run away because the war broke out. Today he lives under one roof with other animals that had to leave their homes : a dog whose owner died, an abandoned turtle and a gecko that a certain girl got bored of. The stories of adopted animals are a starting point for reflection on whether there is a home, whether it is possible to take it with you like a snail does? Or whether a home where no one lives is still a home?

Marta: Finally, I will add a few titles that I haven’t held in my hands yet, but I think they might work well. The first one is “Octonauts and the loneliest creature” and the second “The Octonauts and the Sad Fish” from Moemi (Media Rodzin). These are books based on a great educational animated series. I enjoy watching subsequent episodes with my son and I think that it is one of the best fairy tales for preschoolers. In each episode we get an interesting adventure, which, however, is not it stimulates with its enormous pace of storytelling and knowledge about subsequent animal species. The Octonauts even visited the Białowieża Forest to meet a bison.

The last proposal is a story with a captivating cover “Dancing lights” Yuval Zommer (Colon). The description is even more enticing: “This beautifully lyrical book not only depicts how the aurora ‘travels’ from space to Earth, but also illustrates its magical effect on the people and creatures who gaze at its glow. Arctic foxes frolic under the starry sky, whales and puffins sing, and the light of the aurora dances, weaving a magical thread across the frozen lands. This book is a sparkling, atmospheric masterpiece. It sounds like a perfect read for December days and evenings.
