is one of the most popular politicians in Poland. He started his career in 1967, when he was employed at the Gdańsk Shipyard. In the following years, he was actively involved in social activities, including: he founded the “Solidarity” trade union movement, of which he was the leader for some time, thus gaining the support of citizens. In the years 1990-1995 he served as the president of the Republic of Poland, and after the end of his term, he became involved in supporting the opposition.
Wałęsa talked about his fortune. He confessed what he spent most of it on
It would seem that many years of activity on the political scene allowed him to accumulate a considerable fortune. In the podcast, the former president decided to address this issue and revealed that he donated most of his life’s achievements to the Church, and specifically to Jasna Góra. – I gave everything I had. How much gold, it’s unbelievable – he said. – The nation gave me, the world gave me: wedding rings, thousands of things. I didn’t take anything for myself, he admitted with sincerity.
When asked whether it had ever occurred to him to recover the money, he admitted that he had anticipated such a circumstance and, just in case, included it in the document prepared for the donation. – I knew that the times would come when I would want to take it away from them, so I wrote at the end: “When I am old and want to take it away from you, throw me out!” And now my son went because they wanted to make a census and they threw him out – he said with a laugh.
40 years ago, Wałęsa received the Nobel Peace Prize. What did he do with the fee?
Many are also interested in the issue of the fee that Lech Wałęsa received for winning the Nobel Peace Prize on October 5, 1983. In a conversation with the hosts, he admitted that he donated the entire amount to charity. – As for the Nobel Prize, I gave the money to the hospital and everything else to Jasna Góra – he confessed, adding that at that time it seemed to him the only right solution, but today he does not know whether he would do the same. – Today I wouldn’t do it because I have doubts about them, but at that time what was I supposed to do? I couldn’t keep it, I couldn’t preserve it, I couldn’t sell it. (…) I gave everything away – explained the politician.
Finally, he also wanted to find out how much money Wałęsa needs monthly to be able to live happily and with dignity. The former leader of “Solidarity” did not provide a specific amount because his wife takes care of the household budget, but he admitted that having a large family is an obligation. – You’d have to ask your wife. I have a big family, everyone has problems, he said. – Whoever has bees has honey, and whoever has children has hardship – he said eloquently.
