“A case for a reporter” in trouble. The expert says that the format is exhausted

“A Case for a Reporter” has been broadcast on Telewizja Polska for almost 41 years. In the meantime, the program was experiencing a crisis due to falling viewership. So the producers introduced variations that were supposed to attract new viewers, but they were completely different from the original assumptions of the intervention format. Adam Szynol, a media expert from the University of Wrocław, commented on El¿bieta Jaworowicz’s program.

was once one of the most watched intervention programs in Poland. Over time, interest in the format began to decline, which prompted producers to introduce changes that were intended to attract viewers to the screens again. Controversial guests were increasingly invited to the program, such as Tamara Gonzalez Pera, previously known as Macademian Girl, a “system settings therapist and soul coach”.

Disco polo stars also appeared in “A Case for a Reporter”. For example, the episode in which Elżbieta Jaworowicz described Mrs. Maryna’s difficult situation received wide attention. The heroine admitted that her husband used violence against her and made it difficult for her to have contact with her children. After this confession, the band Masters appeared on the “stage”, whose vocalist sang the song “Żono moja”. Hearing the words of a song about true love, the heroine of the program began to cry.

What next with “A Case for a Reporter”?

Journalists from the Wirtualnemedia.pl portal contacted a media expert from the University of Wrocław, who commented on the future of “The Case for a Reporter”. “It’s a format similar to a dinosaur – a bit doomed to extinction,” Adam Szynol began. The media expert also does not assume that the problems of “Matters for a Reporter” are in any way related to structural changes at Telewizja Polska. “It basically remains independent of the situation that will take place on TVP after the change of government. Viewership will decline, and attempts to make it more attractive are becoming more and more challenging. Inviting Zenek or another singer will not change much given the shape and manner of conducting the program.” – we read in the article by Virtual Media.

According to Adam Szynol, the producers of “Sprawa dla reportera” should first of all start by changing the host. “It still requires a change of host. I know it’s a risky move, but if we are to attract 30-40-year-olds, I have the impression that Mrs. Elżbieta Jaworowicz is no longer a person who speaks the right language to them… We also need to think about a different formula. Sometimes you can get the impression that the program is over-worded or forcefully “inflated” with musical performances.
