The awards ceremony for the 45th edition of the Kutxa Ciudad de Irun literary awards will take place this Friday, November 24, at the Amaia Cultural Center, starting at 7:30 p.m. In it, in addition to presenting the awards to the winners, the writer Jose Angel Irigaray will be honored.

During the evening, the prize will be awarded for each of the four modalities of the contest: Xabier Lasa Gorraiz with the novel in Basque Ura ez baita beti gardenaJon Gerediaga in poetry in Basque with Zeru-lurren liburuaMartha Asunción Alonso with the novel in Spanish Letters to Nensi and Andrés García Cerdán in poetry in Spanish with Underwater breathing equipment.

The Elkar publishing house will edit and distribute the award-winning books in Basque, and the Algaida publishing house the books in Spanish. The prizes for novels in Spanish and Basque are worth 20,000 euros and a trophy, and those for poetry in both languages ​​are worth 15,000 euros and a trophy.

In addition, the writer Jose Angel Irigaray will receive an honorary award decided by a jury made up of Euskal Editoreen Elkartea (EEE), Euskal Itzultzaile, Zuzentzaile eta Interpreteen Elkartea (EIZIE), Euskal Idazleen Elkartea (EIE) and Galtzagorri, Euskal Haur eta Gazte Literatura elkartea .

Born in Pamplona, ​​Irigaray was a member of the group Ez Dok Amairu and the Basque School of Contemporary Art founded by Jorge Oteiza. From 1995 to 2003, he participated in the sociocultural activities of the Zenbat Gara society of Bilbao, mainly in those of Kafe Antzokia. In 1996 he was appointed by its founder as a member of the board of the Oteiza Foundation. Since the 1980s he has collaborated with the Pamiela publishing house in Pamplona.

In the literary field, he has published works in prose, both narrative and essay, but he has mainly written poetry.
